bangarang motherfucker! (aka: i voted!)

Nov 02, 2010 11:50

first off: the "least likeley" movie-catchphrase from the new  xkcd (#813) is my new favorite catchphrase.

and second: yay! now that i'm finally 18 (as of october!) i can vote! and now that i have a paper to rewrite for my horrible film class, i'm going to procrastinate by writing an lj post about voting! yay!

so i couldn't bring myself to vote for either brown (d) or whitman (r) for govenor because brown is a complete moron and i just don't agree with whitman's politics. so i voted for nightingale from the independent party because i knew she wouldn't win. and i am so grateful that she won't win because now that i've looked at her website i really don't like her. so...shit. oh well. like i said, she won't win. then i voted for harris for attorney general ( i kind of wish she was running for governor--i so would have voted for her, and i think she would have been a much stronger democrat opponent to whitman than brown). i voted boxer for senate and then i just sort of started...picking people. at random. i didn't even know some of the positions were up for election (like treasurer--i didn't vote for the incumbent though because california is financially in the hole, and i think we need someone new). then the local elections blah blah blah AND THE STATE PROPOSITIONS:
19: legalize and tax marijuana: yes
20: congressional district lines to be re-drawn by a committee: yes
21: increase vehicle license fees by $18 a year to fund state parks: yes (i don't drive, so it was easy to say yes)
22: state government prohibited from taking designated types of local funds: no
23: suspend ab 32, "the global warming solutions act" until unemployment falls below 5.5% for a year: FUCK NO
24: eliminates three business tax breaks: no
25: budget and related legislation can be passed with simple majority, rather than current 2/3rds requirement: yes
26: requires a 2/3 supermajority vote in the legislature to pass certain state and local fees: no
27: return task of redistricting to the california state legislature (repealing prop 11): no
[see all ballot propositions here]
anyways...yeah. ho hum, i've got two hours to rewrite my paper oh fuck i hate that class. let's keep procrastinating!

so apparently when i registered to vote my handwriting for my address was illegible so they had my address wrong. so when i went in there they were like "you're not in our booklet-thing" i was like "nooooooooo!" but they were really helpful and found me and i got to vote and fix my address so all is good in the world. and then when i was done i got to put it in the counting machine and it made little binging noises like "you win!" and it made me happy. and i got a sticker. wow, that makes me sound like a five-year-old, not an adult of legal voting age.

now i seriously need to work on that paper, but i really dont' want to....
damn.
