We did it!! We booked our Alaska cruise today and I am soooooosoosoosososo excited. It really stressed me out a lot right after I did it ... just all the organizing and planning and whatnot, but I'm doing okay. The first (and I'm sure worst) ordeal was just picking a damn room. Of course, we are trying to do it as cheaply as possible, but I just didn't know when it was worth spending more money or not. I ended up with a room on the lower promenade deck (the one where you walk around a-la-titanic style) a little toward the back of the boat. It has a window (important) but there's a lifeboat in front of it (not so important). I really don't expect us to spend much time in our room, but I definately want there to be light in the morning. I don't think I could stand a room without natural light! Second task ... choosing dining arrangements. Oh what an ordeal ... I ended up just picking the "open dining" one .. you can make daily reservations or first come, first served open dining in one of the dining rooms. Table for two! I'm not too worried though, since they have a late night open buffet, little cafes, and 24 hour complimentary room service ... I don't think we'll go hungry. After all that, we now have to book our flight to Seattle, and book our shore excursions. This is what I have in mind, but Sean still has to look at them:
Juneau, Alaska:
*Morning tramway ride $27
*Afternoon "Bike & Brew" (bike ride to a brewery!!) $94
Sitka, Alaska:
*Ocean Kayaking $118
Ketchikan, Alaska:
*Some totem tour deal & LUMBERJACK SHOW! $69
or
*just the lumberjack show $34
Victoria, Canada
*evening Ale & Brewery Tour $79
I expect to spend about an additional $400 on our excursions, and then we just need to pay for booze. Although my coworker that used to work on cruise ships says they let you bring your own water bottles on board ... and Vodka looks a lot like water. I am DYING to go to the lumberjack show. They have sooo many cool things to do in Ketchikan (like zip-lines in the forest!), but my heart is set on log throwing and flannel. The totem pole thing looks pretty darn cool, but it's one of those early in the morning ones, and I don't know how that's gonna feel when we're out there. haha. I really, REALLY want to do the bike & brew (well Sean said we are absolutely doing that one), and the kayaking because I want to do some sort of physical activity while we are on vacation. I love kayaking but never get to go anywhere cool, so I'm looking forward to that. The awesome thing about the brewery tours, is that you get to sample the beer at no additional cost! Whoot.
I'm elated. I can't wait till June 13th!!!
Oh, and a side note ... You know how there's ads on the side of the page? Well right now there's one for UTI (Univeral Technical Institute) and at the top in big letters it says "UTI: is the answer" and I'm thinking, "Urinary tract infection? What?" LOL
