The idea to camp was completely Ariadne’s, the rain, Arthur decided, was fate’s. The moment he woke, he could smell it thick in the air around him, his skin sticky and heavy. The second moment, he realized Ariadne no longer slept in the sleeping bag next to him. Almost immediately, worry stormed through him and he quickly took in the sight of all of her mostly folded clothing, bright turquoise bandana topped by her watch. Her pack and shoes sat neatly by the thin, grey fabric of the door, neither moved from the night before. In fact, nothing in the tent implied that she had gone anywhere, except for the obvious absence of her.

When he peeled the zipper down the side of the door to the tent, the smell of rain burst upon his senses far earlier before that of the trees on either side. Arthur carefully tugged his boots on and tied the laces with precision before venturing out into the gentle pitter patter.

“Ariadne?” he called out as he stomped efficiently through the fallen needles and leaves.

The point man emerged from the cover of the trees, he couldn’t help but feel a spark of worry ignite in his gut as he looked from left to right. With the lake before him and miles of trees around him, Arthur figured this would take a while.

Until he properly looked out across the lake.

The dim reflection of the cloudy sky was interrupted by a ripple as Ariadne surfaced from under the water, eyes closed and completely at one with the world. Her long hair drifted about beside her as she slowly stroked along, unaware of Arthur’s presence on the shore for a couple moments and he simply observed her, not wanting to disrupt the peace he could see before him. She paused briefly to glide toward the shore and the point man didn’t know whether to run or stay, so, he did the easiest and remained rooted to his position.

“Arthur?” Ariadne startled as soon as she was almost close enough to fully emerge from the water.

“You were missing,” he explained without pomp or circumstance.

She nodded in response before she dipped beneath the water briefly. The rain continued to picked up a little, running down his nose and dropping off his chin. His clothes would be properly soaked in a matter of minutes. Ariadne’s head rose from the water again, but much lower than before.

“I’m not wearing anything,” she admitted sheepishly, cheeks burning a little red. “I meant to be back before you woke up. It was too beautiful out.”

Arthur smiled a little; only she would see the beauty in a downpour.

“The water’s actually a little warm, compared to the rain,” she continued quietly, objectively, “I’ll be alright.”

“Turn around for a moment,” he requested and waited for her to gracefully swivel in the water so she faced the opposite shore in the water.

The rain against his bare skin exhilarated him far more than against the fabric of his shirt and Ariadne’s smooth, water-slicked skin even more.

He treaded water, his long legs kicking back and forth, mere inches from hers as he pressed a kiss to her shoulder, her hair, her neck, her mouth. And, as the rain slid along his lips, he pressed in closer. He could feel the warmth of her body, a sharp contrast from the slight chill of the water of the lake. Ariadne wove one hand around his shoulders, the other sliding through the water in an effort to keep both of them afloat.

Arthur could hardly refuse her; she was too beautiful.

I've also signed up for the reverse bang, so hopefully that'll go well!
