A brush of the hand from underneath the table startled Lou Lou from his mental detachment, to look up immediately into the eyes of the supposed attacker. Minho, who was seated beside him, was listening intently to Mrs Lee on her business trip. Of course, being adults themselves, Minho and Mrs Lee would understand the works of the business world. Lou Lou agreed that it was the best time for him to get lost in his own thoughts and dreams.
He watched as Minho had this relaxed smile on his face. Lou Lou couldn’t help but to wonder whether it was for Mrs Lee (for being polite, of course). Or was it for him.
The boy continued to eye suspiciously at the older man, as his own hand discreetly crawled underneath the table and towards Minho’s which was on his lap. His pale long fingers tugged on Minho’s large ones, starting this endless game of teasing and annoyance.
Minho felt the sensation of the little ones’ hands; the ones that he was already too familiar with. He swiped the boy’s hand away, as a non-verbal reminder to stop fooling around.
Lou Lou let out a small pout, feeling rejected by Minho. Being a stubborn kid that he was, he tried again this time by pulling on Minho’s fingers with a little force. He silently chuckled as he observed Minho’s facial expression.
The elder was trying hard to concentrate on Mrs Lee’s words, but with the little ‘game’ that was playing underneath the table, he lost track. He tried to not make it obvious that he was not paying full attention, but Lou Lou caught it almost immediately. The boy drew a wide smile, feeling victorious for successfully deviating Minho’s attention.
Could not take it any longer, Minho captured Taemin’s annoying hand into his. He intertwined their fingers into a strong interlocking grip. Trying to maintain a calm composure in front of his unaware mother, Lou Lou’s eyes widened. A smug curve formed on Minho’s lips; his eyes not looking away from Mrs Lee.
The ahjusshi won this time round.
“Minho sshi, more tea for you?” Mrs Lee asked while holding up the rose printed porcelain teapot. Minho wanted to turn down her offer, but she was already pouring it in into his cup. He nodded as a form of thanks to the petite woman and at the same time, caressing the soft skin at the base of Taemin’s thumb.
Minho and Lou Lou still carry on the much deceived “platonic” relationship they both had. It was just pretence (a realistic pretence in a way) in the public’s eye. Lou Lou would still perceive Minho as his best friend or a fatherly figure. While Minho pretended to view Lou Lou as his little adopted son.
But behind closed doors (or preferably behind Mrs Lee’s back), those signs of affection appear. And they appeared whenever Minho was with the Lees at their house for a mini chit chat session or lunch.
They were always on alert to experiment different ways to signify their love for one another. A casual brush of the hand was already a common thing for them. On some occasions, if time permit when Mrs Lee disappeared somewhere that would take her minutes (such as making tea), the two sneaky lovebirds would exchange quick kisses and hugs. They made sure they did them fast before she returned (and without eliciting disturbing noises).
Although both of them did not talk much about their so called ‘relationship’, they knew it was just wrong.
During that time, the norm society was dumb (that’s what Minho thought initially when he moved in). Expectations were set everywhere, and people had to just blindly follow, without knowing the actual reason. Men had to work, women were taught to be perfect homemakers and children were brought up to be little Einsteins before they even reach their teenage years. It sounded torturous and robotic, as if some divine being had the absolute power to mould humans to be that way.
But nothing was done.
No one was brave enough to walk the path less travelled and make the change, because no one was receptive to change. In fact, there were no such rules that govern whether you were perfect enough to stay in that town. There was no such thing at all.
People just happened to be that way.
Just like playing with fire, Minho and Lou Lou knew it was a blasphemy to not keep up with this ‘reputation’ and instead fall in this mess, but they couldn’t stop it. Considering how closed-minded the society was (and maybe towards this issue as well), things were going to get ugly if word leaked out.
But who cares, they were enjoying every moment while it last.

Minho ahjusshi, can you help me with my homework?”
A sly crooked smile formed slowly on Minho’s lips as he followed the innocent kid towards his bedroom. As soon, as they stepped into the confines of the room, Minho roughly pulled Taemin’s hand, pushing him until his back came in contact with the cold wood. The door locked with a click, and it all started.
Minho devoured Lou Lou’s plump lips, nibbling roughly on the soft pink flesh. Slipping a hand like a thief up Lou Lou’s tee shirt and lightly grazed the soft skin around the navel area, Lou Lou elicited a groan that might be loud enough to be heard from outside. That threw his thoughts about homework to the back of his head; the last thing that was going to be on his mind until this was over.
Minho quickly covered the younger’s mouth with his large free hand; the other sneaky one was still on the same spot as before. Lou Lou’s eyes narrowed, slowly realising the mistake he had just done.
“Shush, Tae,” Minho whispered, glaring down at the boy. Slowly a smirk appeared, and the hand on his torso began to crawl up inch by inch. “Your mom’s going to hear us.”
Just the image of being trapped like that, with a breathing soul just doors away from where they were turned them on even more.
On the side-lines, Mrs Lee was happy of his son and Minho’s friendship. Of course, being Lou Lou’s mom, she was content that her son was able to at least, find someone whom he could fully trust and be around comfortably. But soon enough, suspicions began to arouse.
She found that Lou Lou was spending too much of his time with Minho. Not that she mind. After all, she wanted the best for her son; to keep that huge wide smile on his face that in turn, brightened up her life. But she was having thoughts him not socialising enough with his peers, especially his classmates.
Ever since they moved into the neighbourhood and Lou Lou had to switch schools, the only person that he was seen with was Minho. Did he even make new friends? Did he get along well? Was the school environment suitable for him?
Those were the questions that floated in her mind.
Taking into account how Lou Lou did not introduce his classmates to her (let alone invite them over), she was beginning to put the blame on the close friendship Lou Lou shared with Minho.
“Taemin, how about you invite your friends over after school?” Mrs Lee began as mother and son sat comfortably in the living room while watching some television show.
Lou Lou diverted his attention from the screen to his mother beside him. His eyebrows furrowed into a straight line, as confusion washed all over his cute face. “Why?”
“You never introduce me to your friends.” She said in a soft tiny voice that matched perfectly to her stature. She sipped her lukewarm cup of tea. “Not only that…” she glanced again at her son, praying that whatever she said next would not anger him.
“It seems like you don’t spend time with your classmates. You’re always home early. And the moment you step into the house, you changed your clothes and went straight to Minho-sshi’s place.” Mrs Lee observed Lou Lou, who still had a calm expression.
Lou Lou hesitated for a while, absorbing every word that his mother had just said. Somewhere along those lines, he couldn’t deny but to agree with him not introducing his friends to his own mother. It was a common practice across all families, for mothers to know who their sons’ friends were.
At the same time, he also had his own sea of doubts as well. Judging from the tone, Lou Lou could easily tell that she was a little unhappy with him being exceptionally close to Minho. After all, they were more than just friends.
Lou Lou wanted to say something, to defend himself and Minho, but he decided not to. Remember, a slip of word from his mouth could shatter everything both of them had.
He had to think of something logical and with reason, to refute his mother.
“Umma, is it wrong for me to visit Minho ahjusshi?” Taemin asked disbelievingly. He forced himself to look into his mother’s eyes, and spoke slower than his normal tone, so as not to give anything away.
“He’s our closest friend that we could have here. He’s a very nice man, who has done a lot for us. It’s right that I at least visit him once a day, as a way to appreciate his efforts.”
Lou Lou’s heart sank, filling every cavity in the chambers with guilt. He had never lied to his mother before. That was his first time, and uneasiness took over him immediately.
He glanced back at the television screen, pretending to watch the show. From the corner of his eye, Mrs Lee slowly nodded her head while sipping her tea.
Lou Lou was ironically happy that for the first time in his life, she bought his lies.

“Minho, my mom is starting to get suspicious of us,” Lou Lou said into the deep corners of Minho’s neck. It was a weeknight after school and it just so happen that Lou Lou’s mother had to work overtime that night. That meant he could spend a longer time with Minho before she returned home.
The house was remarkably quiet that night, except for the few shrills of the crickets. The lovebirds were not doing anything special, even though they had an extra 3-4 hours. Instead of watching the television or making out, they were both cuddling on the couch.
Lou Lou rested his head against Minho’s broad shoulders while the elder’s arms wrapped around the boy’s slender form. Lou Lou traced lazy circles on an area of the other’s neck, while Minho himself buried his nose deep into the younger’s hair.
Minho pulled away from Lou Lou, while still maintaining his hold on the boy. He looked down at him, puzzled. “How did you know?”
Lou Lou sighed, looking up at Minho through the wisps of his bangs. “I don’t know. She suddenly asked why I didn’t introduce my classmates to her. And she mentioned about me going to your place often.”
Minho’s jaw stiffened. He was going to expect his lover’s mother to get suspicious of their close proximity one day, but he did not expect that it came sooner. “What did you say then?”
“I just say that I have to visit you because you are our family friend.” Taemin raised his head, just enough that he could view Minho’s full facial features. “It’s a form of respect. It’s logical, don’t you think so?”
A lopsided grin formed on Minho as he gave a quick peck on Lou Lou’s lips. That heavy guilt in his heart disappeared almost too quickly, but there was still a tiny bit left. And it's bothering him. “My smart baby.”
A blush crept up Lou Lou’s cheeks; the rosy redness just made him too precious to Minho. The boy giggled, went back to the elder’s shoulder to snuggle deeper. Minho spontaneously brought Lou Lou closer towards him, wrapping his arms around the boy tighter.
Comfortable silence followed, as both of them were deep in their own thoughts. It was no surprise that they were both thinking of the same thing.
Minho was getting worried. The suspicions were starting to form. It was a little faint, but soon enough the entire picture would be revealed. Just the thought of losing his love sooner than he had imagined was killing him inside a little. He brought a hand to caress the back of Lou Lou’s head lovingly.
“You know that I love you, right?” Minho whispered as his nose grazed the luscious and soft auburn hair. Realising that Lou Lou didn’t reply, he looked down to find the boy already asleep with his head tucked cozily in the elder’s neck.
Minho smiled warmly, as he kissed Lou Lou’s forehead affectionately. With still about 2 hours left, Minho decided to let the boy sleep first before waking him up. Maybe he’s already tired from a long day in school, he thought to himself.
A storm was forming outside, as light raindrops fell onto the neighbourhood from the gray heavens above. It was like a sign to Minho, for some reason. That rough storms were coming ahead.
I’ll not let you go.
