My mom and I have been watching a few indie films recently, which is really cool because we have similar taste, whereas my father can't handle most films that are realistic. Seriously, he doesn't like most war films now because the violence has gotten too life-like - but he loves Jackie Chan movies because everything still looks fake, so I have to endure those a lot.

Anyhow, the other night we saw Pieces of April, with Katie Holmes as a sort of messed-up girl about my age who needs to cook Thanksgiving dinner for the first time to pull her family together, only she doesn't know how and everything seems to be turning out poorly. Despite having some hilarious moments, the movie also has a lot of somber notes, such as a woman dying of breast cancer showing her family a picture of her post-surgery chest...which I'd never seen before, assuming the photo was real. I recommend the film if you're feeling indie, but not *too* indie. We also saw American Chai tonight, a rather tired film about an Indian student in New Jersey who loves music, but is afraid to tell his parents. All the characters were so stereotypical, and the plot was completely predictable, but it wasn't painful to watch. Just not that impressive. Cool music though.

Driving down to Hooville again tomorrow...cable guy is coming, as is my bed!
