HOLY SHIT
you will not believe what's been going down down here...
There was cheering outside, so we went out to see what was going on. Then we heard stuff was going on at the towers (the dorms on the south side of campus.) When we got there, nothing was happening. So, we called a friend of ours who was out on the strip. He said it was all happening there. We began to walk in that direction. That was when we saw the cops driving by. Sirens were blaring and they had on their riot gear. We decided to walk back across campus to get to our dorm. We realized they were going that was as well. They had tear gas canisters with them too. So we cut through the forest, which is not the recommended path after dark, but we decided it was better to stay away from the crowds and off the beaten path. We heard cars being pounded on, pop machines being tipped over, all sorts of stuff. Samm jumped every time she heard a booming sound, thinking it was mustard gas or something of the sort. We could smell the sulfur in the air as we got closer to home. We had to cut across a mob of people to get into the boys' dorm (the closest one) and we hid, watching the giant crowd carry off street signs and the like. We called all of our friends who were out, hoping they were still sober enough (not completely sober, though) to be able to get out of the strip ok.
We still don't know where they are.
Damn, I was not prepared for this. I should have been, but I wasn't.
I wanted to call my mother, but, it seems a little late.
I'll call her in the morning.
I hope I get some sleep tonight. I doubt it.
I survived my first Carbondale riot. I was not expecting it to be about baseball.
