Back to school

It’s been awhile since I updated this. I guess I should do it more often. School has started again. Mike is going to school with us now that he is laid off. He was fretting it for a while but is now getting into the swing of things. Unfortunately, none of his classes coincides with RJ and my classes. Last winter and spring terms ended with a positive note. I made the deans list with a 3.7. I doubt I will be doing that again this term. Math is going to be my downfall I’m afraid. RJ and I both have business math together and he is breezing through it without any problems, me its still a struggle to remember formulas.

RJ is going to a group thing for young adults with Aspergers. During the summer he was going twice a week, one day they would meet at this church’s gym and they would have some kind of sport activity, or they would go out in the field and play soccer or wiffle baseball. Then on Monday nights they would have game night and RJ was able to play magic the gathering with other kids. That made him happy. With school starting again, they have cut the get together to the Thursday “hang time” where they have activities like basketball and kick ball and only once a month for the game night. With all the homework, I think it’s just as well that he doesn’t have a lot of outside activities.

This term I have Intro to disease, intro to medical insurance and business math. Intro to disease isn’t that bad, it’s a gross class because I haven’t seen a pretty disease yet. Worse part of the class is I have to do a paper on a disease of your choice. I’m doing it on Hoshimoto’s disease. Intro to insurance is rather boring, but gives insight on how medical insurance companies and doctors think. Business math thank god is the last math course I have to take for my certificate. I should be graduating around January of 2011. *knock on wood*

Other than Mike, being laid off for the second time in two years not much else has been going on. Because of all the layoffs, he is eligible for no worker left behind and they will pay for his associate’s degree. Therefore, he is working at getting a certificate and then his associates in computers so he can be more marketable. Baker College has a job placement program so we are both hoping to get jobs through it. Our last two terms they will put us in an intern program to learn the ropes before going for our certifications. I hope that this, will aid in getting secure jobs.

That is about all that is going on. We will see what this year brings. Hopefully, a more secure future.
