My husband asked me, Friday night, if I wanted to know what my birthday present was. After acting like I was undecided, I finally "settled" on the decision that he tell me what it was.
"Okay, tomorrow, I'm taking you to the mall and you get to go to the Coach store and pick out whatever purse you want."
My outside appearance: "Oh wow! Thank you honey! That's so sweet!"
Inside: "AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!" *major squeeage*
So naturally I couldn't sleep. Anyone who knows me, knows that I'm such a purse whore. It's my kryptonite. My Achilles heel. Every year when I have to clean out my closet, I nearly bawl when I have to give up old purses. I nearly threw up when I had to give up my Marc by Marc Jacobs bag. My Dooney is being graciously donated to my sister for safekeeping, even though she's using it. I told her not to get too comfy with it because it really belongs to my super-cute niece (who's only 18 months old but that's just a technicality. She will one day appreciate it). Unless, I have a girl, then she has to give it back to me.
Anyway, after the longest night ever, I pack extra treats in the bag to appease my little one. Who, ironically, hates, and I mean HATES, the Coach store. He glares angrily at it whenever we stroll by and throws mega tantrums as soon as we walk in the happy place. I have to be a bad mommy and occupy him with something sweet to nosh on while I peruse. So we decided to check out the mall by our future home...
It's the best mall ever.
I found the Coach store....right across from the Kate Spade store. I was seriously torn about which one I wanted to go to first. My husband just rolled his eyes and took Colin to the play area and told me to call him when I made my decision. I had to wonder what other stores they had so I sought out the nearest directory.
Ack!! A Betsey Johnson store! A Nordstroms! Neiman Marcus dwells here too! Louis Vuitton! Burberry! Sephora! And...OMG...in big block letters "Coming Soon: Barney's"
Barney's!!
How could I have missed this place?!! It was like I had finally found my true home. I wanted to hug the directory but I figured that my eyes nearly welling up with tears was strange enough so I giggled at it. But I was really good and stuck to only the Kate Spade store and Coach. And Nordstrom's. And Burberry but that was it. And I ended up walking out of Coach with a brand spanking new purse.
It smells pretty. And new.
I took extra time doing the time honored tradition of "the Transfer" when you move all your stuff from your old purse to your new one. I love that. And I even had a funny mom moment when I discovered a small bite-size piece of pizza and a toy in my old bag. I guess my son wanted to keep himself busy in case he was forced to go shopping with me. :)
