The desert and food and the movies

Took some pics of the desert (botanical garden) when I was in AZ last and just posted them over on wandererinblue if anyone's interested.

It's been just about 2 weeks since I started my New Year's food resolutions - no white sugar/flour and 2 fruits/3 veggies a day. I've been doing great on the no refined sugar/flour. The other? Not so much. I'm a serious carb hog so that's likely why. Plus, it's hard for me to find veggies that I like and will actually eat. Sure, I like salads all right, but I don't want to eat one every day. Some of my favorite veggie recipes are The best broccoli of your life and Green Beans with Walnuts. I'm not big on tomatoes, squash or peppers, but I'm okay with everything else, I think. Any favorite recipes you want to share?

I found some new apples that I really like - Arkansas Blacks - at Whole Foods. They are more of a dark purple and deliciously sweet. Yum!

I got a food processor and used it to make fresh peanut butter. Mmmmm. So good. You just buy salted peanuts (no skins) and toast them for a few minutes, then throw them in the food processor. I've also been making a LOT of sweets because I'm totally addicted to that and have found some really great recipes. Three Ingredient Chocolate Bars (with agave syrup) and One Minute Chocolate Cake are my favorite. I also made some Blueberry Corn Muffins with whole wheat flour and cornmeal that came out quite good. I haven't done so much cooking in years, but I'm rather enjoying it although now I will probably need to get my dishwasher fixed since I do not enjoy hand washing dishes so much.

Saw Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol today and quite enjoyed it although I don't really care for Tom Cruise. He's looking sort of ragged these days. There was one scene in which he was shirtless and he looked pretty awful - scrawny and ropy. :-( But I did so appreciate the other guy - Jeremy Renner - who was beautiful and scruffy and has the added bonus of not being (as far as I know) a crazy-ass Scientologist who denounces mental health treatment. Anyhow, the girl was lovely as well and there was much shooting and running around and driving fancy cars and beating one another up. Quite satisfying!
