I always wonder how future Jack is feeling as he sits in the Hub watching this and knowing that he can’t do anything. Does he lock down so the team can’t get out or does he take them all off somewhere on a wild goose chase (stories are made of this in fan fiction)
Is there fanfic of this? Because I've always wondered about it too.
So the moment in the restaurant when Jack is telling tall tales? And he's laughing, and gesturing expansively, and the rest of team Tardis is nodding along with him? My god, does that moment ever break my heart. It always makes me catch my breath a little, because never do we see him as happy, before or after.
ALSO, when Jack geeks out with Margaret and totally surprises the heck out of the Doctor with his knowledge of spatio-temporal mechanics. And you can see he wants to be smug, and all "I AM NOT JUST ANOTHER PRETTY FACE." But Jack's cool and graceful and je ne sais fuck you about the whole thing, and then the Doctor lets him work on his rad sentient spaceship, and Jack and TARDIS strike up a decades long off and on relationship type deal. Yeah, this is possibly one of my favorite episodes of all time.
Yeah I could take or leave the story of this episode, but I absolutely love the chemistry between all the characters. I love how easily Jack fits in with Rose and Nine, and you see Nine admitting to the fact that Jack's actually a pretty competent useful dude. And I just love carefree geeky Jack so, so, much. I also love Rose and Mickey in this episode too, and how they handled their faltering relationship.
I miss this Jack! So very much. Nine/Rose/Jack in this episode is just stellar. And my favorite interaction between Nine and Jack is in the beginning of it

Jack's little 'finger W' used to come in very handy at work.
