Everything shimmers. It's like flying her plane through glitter, and Diane laughs, partially because she's terrified at the way the machine is shaking. She's flown through turbulence before, but never when she feared her plane would rattle apart.
These are like no skies she's ever known, and she is alone.
She breathes. The same advice that always served her comes back to her mind: keep flying straight, look for the horizon.
She does a visual search. There. Part of the shimmer could be blue over a dark coast. If not, it's a place to start.
She aims for the horizon.
