May 22, 2008 01:46

I bring fic! Well a ficlet. But hey I actually wrote something! (although honestly I should probably be doing my optoelectronics report... as you can all guess this is so much more interesting)

Anyway onto the fic!

Title: Banana Muffins and Other Homey Smells...
Genre: Doctor Who
Pairing: est. Ten/Jack
Rating: pg
Length: short - 1400 words...which is an accomplisment for me.
Timeframe: After LotTL's in DW and end of Season 1 in Torchwood - we'll just pretend at sometime in the future Jack's gone travelling with the Doctor. Mostly cause been in Australia a)we're not going to get to see the 2nd season of Torchwood AT ALL!! and b)They haven't even shown the Christmas special of DW here yet... sometimes life is just so unfair.
Summary: Jack's been an idiot flirting again. Or has he?

This is my first foray into writing in the Doctor who world, so umm, please be gentle? That been said all comments are welcome - even the bad ones, after all I've got to learn how to get better somehow. This is unbetaed though, just warning you all.

ANyway on with the story.
*hugs*

The smell of something decidedly interesting wound its way around the Doctor as he fiddled under the Tardis's central controls. That smell had been taunting him for an hour at least! Investigating it could not be put off any longer, even if he was trying to avoid Jack at the moment. Although the argument they'd had upon arriving back in the Tardis after the latest adventure was entirely Jack's fault! ... Well mostly... okay he probably didn't have to disapprove of the flirting quite so much. Even if it had been the reason the locals had tried to kill them...again.

Huh. Nothing for it. That smell was just too tempting. He had to investigate. Jack or no Jack.

Picking his way out from under the console, the Doctor dusted himself off and bounced out of the room into the rest of the Tardis, following his nose.

*sniff* *sniff*

Bananas. Definitely Bananas. The Doctor was sure of it now. He'd tried tasting the air, since that sense was definitely the more potent one in this regeneration, but too many different chemicals in the air to pick out the mix causing that smell. Oh well he'd just have to investigate.

Glancing into the pool room as he past the Doctor was surprised not to see Jack in there. Normally he was in there the second the Doctor and he had an argument, Hmm... curious and curiousier.

Following the smell on automatic now the Doctor thought back onto the words Jack and he had exchanged when they'd gotten back into the Tardis...

"You just had to flirt with the King's bride didn't you!"

"Well sorry if she thought I was a bit more interesting then some stodgy old guy, who didn't even remember her name!"

"Oh yes. Of Course! So that's the only reason is it?!? Jack-The-Fact to the rescue of all damsels and princes in distress! How heroic! And of course now they have to sleep with you in gratitude!"

"...Doc... You know that's not true..."

Wariness now. Good Jack should be worried. He'd been an idiot after all, flirting away with anything even remotely sentient, getting the King of Riagon 6 all ready to have them executed.

"Oh. I'm sorry! That's right! She wanted you to stick around and be her pet, didn't she? Think you'd like that, all the sex and luxury you could want. No running after some 'skinny Time Lord in trainers'! Must sound like paradise to someone like you!"

That would have been about the point he'd started banging around on the consol. Not that the Tardis was likely to forgive that ruff treatment any time soon...

"...But I'm with you now Doc, why would I want anyone else?..."

"Oh I don't know. Maybe it's those whorish tendencies of yours!!"

He'd hurt Jack with that one. Really badly if the quiet voice that answered was anything to go by.

"...Do you want me to leave?"

"YES!"

Oh Rassolin! Why couldn't this generation learn to be careful about what came out of it's mouth! That was probably the worst thing he could have said to Jack, particularly since he'd already felt so unsure of his welcome when he'd joined the Doctor again 3 months ago.

And what fun months there'd been. If was NICE being able to travel with someone who didn't need constantly looking after. Someone who'd already SEEN time, who knew the rules, who didn't need the Doctor to be their 'be all or end all'. It was even nice sometimes just spending days in the Tardis together, fixing up the consol and other bits and stuff.

Oh Rassolin he'd been an idiot. Well he'd go apologise or something later. Give Jack a chance to cool down, find out what that smell was first.

Whatever it was, it was coming from the kitchen. Well that at least ruled out anything unsavoury.

Poking his head around the corner the Doctor couldn't quite believe what he was seeing. Jack. Jack dressed in an apron. Jack dressed in a flowery apron baking...muffins? Banana muffins if the smell was right. He was just bending down to get a tray of them out of the oven.

"Hello Jack".

*crash*

Maybe he should've waited for Jack to put the tray down properly first before calling out... But hey! At least all the muffins were still in one piece!

"Doctor! What are you doing here!?"

Looking rather sheepish the Doctor moved further into the room, coming round and reaching past Jack to the plate of muffins.

"Looking for you actually."

"Well you found me."

Ahhh. Jack wasn't going to make this easy on him was he? Well he probably did kinda maybe deserve it a little bit. Maybe he'd just have a bite of the muffin first - give him some time to think.

Oh! That was delicious! All Bananay and crumbly and moist and...wow. If he'd known Jack could cook like that they definitely wouldn't have been eating out so much!

"I didn't know you could cook!"

"...I can't really..."

"But these! They're delicious!"

"Thank you. But umm that's not cooking that's baking. I, umm, do it when I'm upset. Helps pass the time."

"Oh."

Well that was awkward wasn't it? It shouldn't be this hard. Humans! Especially 51st Century Immortal ones! You'd think once you started sleeping with them they'd be easier to understand.

"I'm sorry Jack. I shouldn't have said that. I know you're not a whore."

"Does this mean you still want me to leave?"

"NO! No. Not if you don't want to..."

"Good! I mean that's good. Cause no I don't really want to leave. This place is home you know?..."

*shock* "...You think of the Tardis as home?"

"Well yeah. That is, if you still want me..."

"Yes! I mean yes, of course I still want you Jack. It's just..."

"Is it the flirting? You know I don't mean anything by it. I can stop if you really want me too."

"No. It's a part of you Jack and I wouldn't want to change that. Just maybe try and tone it down a little? At least when you're out with me? After all it's not the most flattering thing to hear your partner say they'd rather spend the night somewhere else"

"...You thought? Oh no Doc! I was talking about you! I was saying I was spending the night with you!"

"What..." He was looking at Jack full on now, after being so absorbed in making sure no crumbs escaped from the left over muffin rapper. But if Jack hadn't meant what he'd though he'd meant then maybe... Maybe there was still hope for them yet.

"Xaresh. The bride. She asked me why I wouldn't stay around, be in her harem kinda thing. I told her I had a partner already. This really sexy skinny guy in trainers who I'd come with. And who I was planning on going home with..."

Okay. Maybe there was hope for them yet. He'd obviously just overheard them at the wrong point. That was all. And wasn't Jack just adorable when he was all flustered and embarrassed. Huh. Wasn't often Jack was the one embarrassed in their relationship but there you go. He just had to hug him.

Reaching out and pulling Jack firmly into his arms the Doctor relaxed for the first time all night, breathing in the scent of Jack and bananas and muffins. Just wonderful. Jacks head tucked into his neck, he could stand all night like this ... or maybe not.

"Come on. Let's go to bed."

Pulling away from his lover of 2 months the Doctor took his hand and began to turn away to lead him out of the kitchen.

"But Doc. What about the muffins?"

"Oh the Tardis will take care of them. Come on now. I want to go relax with my partner."

"Doc..."

*sigh*..."Yes Jack?" turning back to look at the immortal. At this rate they'd never get to the fun stuff.

"Thanks. And it's nice to be home again with you."

So saying Jack passed the Doctor standing in the kitchen doorway, leaning up slightly to brush a kiss across his mouth.

"Come on, let's go to bed."

"That's what I've been trying to do all night!" Grinned the Doctor as he followed his friend and lover out of the room, leaving a plate of freshly baked and cooling banana muffins on the table.

Oh well. They could always bake some more later.

Together.
