I have a lot of thoughts about this episode. One the one hand, we got some great backstory for Jack. His love affair with Estelle was delved in quite deeply, but what was he doing in Lahore? Was it a Torchwood assignment? Does Jack revert to military service because that's where his comfort zone is?

Then there's the scene with Ianto at the start. I read or heard somewhere ages ago, that that scene was added later because they realised that they needed to include some sort of continuity for Ianto's story. Just a couple of lines of dialogue, but most of the scene and all of the emotion was delivered in a fine display of body language.

Gwen was meant to be the audience pov character here, and was mostly used to good effect. However, I didn't like her condescending atitude towards Estelle or Jack. She didn't take either one of them seriously (Estelle's passion or Jack's concerns) until the fairies attacked her flat, and then it was all about her. How dare the fairies mess about with her life?!? It also annoyed me that even though Toshiko was the one who did the initial forensic exam on the dead guy in the cells, it was Gwen who made the discovery of the rose petals in his mouth.

It always made sense to me that Gwen was peeved at Jack for giving up Jasmine. But why were Toshiko and Owen so pissed off? Both of them are far more pragmatic than Gwen. That always seemed sort of off to me, although it did provide a nice fanfic opportunity to have Ianto reach out to Jack.

There also seemed to be a timing issue with this episode. Ianto wears two different suits in the scenes he's in. The first scene with Jasmine is in the afternoon, as is presumably when Jack and Gwen go to Estelle's lecture. If Jack was worried about the fairies, what was the team doing all day after Ianto's discovery of the funny weather patterns?
