Sorry for not getting results out last night - shooting off track with the time line as I did this week ended up with me forgetting all about it (until I got a notification for a new vote ( Read more... )

Hi:

Deadline doesn't matter to me as long as it is clear and an attempt is made to keep to it.

Just to try to keep to schedule, unless there are a large number of ties, wouldn't it be better to have 2 third place icons and just move on rather than holding everything up for another week or so?

Just my preference.

I try to post notices if I can't make it and hope to keep everything within 24hours of the original due date in those cases (and I know how annoying it can be otherwise - there's one LIMS I'm participating in were results/voting takes around a week to put up after the due date)

If it were just 2 tied for third place I would have posted it with the tie. But there are actually 3 icons tied for third place. I'm hoping to have it broken (or at least reduced to only 2 tied) in a couple of hours.
And the tie breaker wouldn't be up for longer than a day.

OK Doke! Yes - hopefully the tie will be broken. I participate in one community where the mod seems to drop by only once a week. So sometimes they are late posting by a week, then the voting for a week, then if there is a tie, another week.

You are quite good in letting us know about delays.

Because I participate in so many communities, if the posting and voting are late, I sometimes have a hard time figuring out if the contest is over or not and whether I can post the icons. I try to be organized but it is difficult with some MIA mods (not you!)

Thanks - I'm trying my best and in comparison to the first couple of challenges I know I've improved. And with more active members I was able to shorten the voting time as well :D

Participating in contests with rarely seen mods can be quite tiring.

The number of contests I'm participating reduced for me lately, but just the one LIMS makes it hard to keep track if I should vote or make icons or just wait. There's even one LIMS where I'm waiting on results since last December. I'm still trying to decide if I should just post those icons or not.

My rule is that if the mod is MIA for more than 3 weeks, put a note in the community and take your icons back!

It is too bad that this is happening to you in a LIMS. I always think that a LIMS requires extra care by the mod and they should be prepared for the commitment to run a fair and consistent LIMS (or they shouldn't even do it). Icon contests that succeed tend to be the most consistent. But things come up and as long as there is a post for a delay or hiatus, then that should be enough for people to decide if they still want to play.

It would be easier if I wasn't amongst the last 4 (with the next challenge declared as the finale before hand). Makes the choice all the harder. It all started with not enough votes, followed by Christmas... before that it was always on track. (I've checked the Mod's journal for most recent posting date and it's been quite for months there as well)

On the other hand - it's been a while since I collected all of my icontest icons into one post. I'll have to decide when I post all the other icons :D

As for the other LIMS - I've been considering to quit every challenge as I waited for the new challenge to be put up. I guess I'll wait and see how long it takes this time. By now participation seems to be low (latest note past the due date there were 6/17 icons entered) and people keep dropping out - I think this is a round that will eventually die before the end.

It really is easier with normal contests. Either everything runs as smoothly as possbile or people just don't participate since there are no commitments.
