Jack sat in the meeting, ostensibly making notes as Owen, Toshiko and Gwen told him in their different ways that they had no idea. No idea what exactly had happened, why only Ianto was sick (although Jack knew that, immortality sucked!) and that he should take more of an interest in Ianto and Arthur’s well being. Jack carried on writing.

He had not told them that he had followed all their investigations on his computer and had his wristband locked onto Ianto’s fading life sign. He had not told them that he had followed Tosh and Ianto on CCTV. That would mean admitting he cared.
Captain Jack Harkness did not show weakness. He kept going despite the pain - actually pain was what reminded him that he was alive - sort of.

Jack giggled quietly, he was behaving like a teenage girl. Too shy to tell the teenage jock how she felt, in case he chose another, better looking, smarter girl.

Jack knew he was trying to protect himself, he had learned a lot about himself in 100 years and learned to be honest with himself. Ianto and Arthur would die, Ianto very likely soon and he dreaded seeing Arthur age. Jack still remembered the pain of having to give up the child that had grown in him. That pregnancy had been a lifetime ago, would be far in the future and yet still hurt him as if it had been yesterday.

Jack decided to brave his pain and went to see Ianto and Arthur. The team would work it out, somehow they always did! They went to the park.
He forgot the paper on his desk, so determined was he to talk to Ianto.

Owen walked into Jack’s office with his written report and found Jack’s ‘notes’. Owen, being Owen, showed them to Toshiko and Gwen.
They giggled like teenage girls, the jock had found his girl.
