On Jack's desk, the stark light of the lamp was a lonely island at the edge of a dark Hub. The glass walls of his office had turned into a mirror, reflecting a shadowy image of him sat in his chair.
Jack looked up from the lamp and met his own eyes in his reflection. The light played strange tricks on his face, casting one half of his face in shadow and bathing the other in light. One eye was calm, dark, watching from the darkness. The other glistened brightly, almost a mirror itself.
Shining only because he was crying.
