Perfume in the air, a sudden flash of colour, an unexpected combination of notes turning into a half-remembered tune… Millennia of memories stuffed in his brain; too many, too crowded to make sense.
Sometimes there are faces, achingly familiar features just out of reach. Strange disconnections: a glimpse of blue skin brings the echo of a gunshot, a hoarse birdlike cry and wind whips his face from leathery wings. But most puzzlingly, most painfully he sees a particular shade of red and tastes coffee. The half-memory is accompanied by an ache of guilt and loss. He has no idea why.
