After the lock-down, the final words, the blackness, his consciousness had fragmented. Occasionally he would catch glimpses of the world, people. Generally no one he knew, sometimes a med school buddy, rarely anyone meaningful.
Then the children had stopped. Now more images of them, the meaningful people, would come to him. Ianto, talking to a woman, children in the background. Gwen, and Rhys, in a... potato truck? Jack, standing alone on a hilltop. Leaving.
It's not like he could ask anyone what had happened. What would happen. And it's not like it could really matter to him anymore, anyway.
