It had never really been a home, never been a place where he lived. Just a place to bring short term conquests and to sleep, waiting for the next call from Jack.
So when he died it simply became another place to wait out the hours of nothing. He’d only really been alive at work, chasing down aliens and cutting them up to see what he could learn.
So it wasn’t lost on him that Torchwood was the place that reminded him that he was actually dead. But at least he didn’t have to drown out the silence in the Hub.
