The puddles of light flitting by on the A470 into Cardiff had never felt more like relief, civilization-home. At the Hub, the team said little as they broke up. Owen put Gwen in his car; on those painkillers, she shouldn't drive.
But Gwen refused to give him directions to her flat.
"Sorry?"
"This shitty, horrible trip, Owen, if I have to go pretend it never happened, it will feel like... it never ended." She turned to him, her eyes pleading. "Don't take me home."
Owen scowled in thought, then shifted the car into gear. There would be no pretending tonight.
