Title: No One Left Author: kawaiisporkmage Characters: Jack and Ianto Challenge: Turn Left Rating: PG Disclaimer: I don't own Torchwood or Doctor Who or any of it.
Ianto may think everyone will die: but surely Jack will survive. And I think Jack would do everything he could to keep Ianto alive. Interesting possibilities.
Sometimes you have to sacrifice everything for a cause, even those you love the most. I think Jack knows that, and has had to do it before (and knows he'll do it again.) I think, in this scenario, Jack would arm Ianto (and Gwen) as best he could, but there's really only so much he can do.
And I really need at least one good Torchwood icon. .___.

I don't think Jack is leaving them in the expectation they will die; he's hoping and expecting they will survive. He's trained them as best he can, and has confidence in them. That's what I liked about the scenario: my sense that he trusted them better than they trusted themselves.
And yes, there's only so much he can do. He knows people can die at any time, and he'll have to live with it.

Well, that Iron Man icon you have is nicely gorgeous!
I think I'm seeing it in a more pessimistic light. Yes, in normal circumstances Jack's trust and belief are absolutely valid and have probably driven everyone in the team to act above their usual abilities, but I think this particular situation is hopeless. Jack, while he doesn't like that and is probably unused to dealing with it, recognizes it. I think that's sort of the point I was trying to get at with Jack in this drabble. He feels frustrated and helpless and like all the work he's done with the team was a complete waste cause this means the end of it all. Not that it wasn't worth it, of course. But, he can't explain that to Ianto or Gwen for a variety of reasons.
And that explanation is practically longer than the fic itself. XD I'll just get off my soapbox now. Heh. I love Jack.
I've never heard Jack sound defeated before, knowing that Ianto sees thru his lie, “Well, there’s some chance,”, and knowing there's nothing he can do to turn it into truth. Quite heartbreaking, actually.
Beautifully written - so much emotion in so few words. It's very powerful. Thank you for sharing.
