Remember what i said yesterday about getting out and voting and how so many young people can't be bothered? In
today's newspaper, there's a story about a local high school teacher who offers his students a perfect grade if they run for office in an election, should there be one that school year. Two of his 18 year old students have taken up the offer, both running for the Green Party. It's so good to see that. And the whole class is right into it and they're all going to vote, all the ones that are 18 anyway. The two students don't think they'll win provincial seats, but they are enjoying the experience and learning loads. One of the two students running is going to major in political science at university. We may hear more from this lad in the future!
There's a bit kerfluffle about the New Democrats taking contributions from various unions and now they're giving back the money. NDP has always been the party that unions support but I guess the perception is that if the NDP get to form a government, it will look like the unions are going to receive some benefits of some sort. I'm sure similar contributions have gone on in the past and nobody blinks an eye but this time, there's a lot of buzz that the NDP might actually get in so of course, now it's an issue. The contributions are maxed at $5000 per donor which isn't a lot but the NDP have had $50,000 donated between 9 unions and a labour council! Well done, i say! :) I think that because it looks like the NDP has a good chance this time around, the opponents are trying to scupper it any way they can. You don't hear about the Conservative party giving back contributions from big corporations do you? Pah. They're all hypocrites. It's not easy to decide who to vote for when really, most of them are all in the same boat. But you try to make a choice based on what you think the party can do for you and hope for the best. If they screw up, vote them out next time and try again.
