By this time last year, i'd read 58 books. I'm almost up to 80! There were two that i didn't finish and there were one or two handsful of short quick reads.

71. A Thousand Days in Venice - Marlena di Blasi
An Italian man falls in love at first sight and sweeps her off her feet. She packs up and moves to Venice with a man she barely knows. We get to know the non-touristy side of Venice as well as see how they manage to get to know each other.

72. A Room With A View - EM Forster
I'd seen the movie with Helena Bonham Carter a few times and wanted to read the book. It was quite good, with well drawn characters.

73. The Redbreast - Jo Nesbo
an earlier book in the series about Norwegian police officer/inspector Harry Hole (i'd read The Leopard which is a few books down in the series). Pretty good. swings back and forth between the turn of this millenium and the eastern front WWII. I think i liked The Leopard a bit better.

74. Red Hook Road - Ayelet Waldman
The books starts on a wedding day in a small town Maine. The wedding couple die in a car crash. The book follows their families over that summer in the aftermath and over the next three summers. Very well written with good, realistic if flawed characters. The best of this lot of books recently finished.

75. Deadlocked - Charlaine Harris
The most recent Sookie Stackhouse (True Blood) books. I accidentally skipped one but she always retells bits and pieces of Sookie's recent adventures so you get the idea of what you missed that leads to where you are now. I think there's only going to be one more in the series.

The fruit fly invasion seems to be over.

Graham still hasn't got his vacation officially authorized. Because he's four days short of time needed, they won't let him go unpaid or borrow from next year's allottment. I think it's because they don't want to do the paperwork. What they have said they will do is let him work a little extra every day and take the time off in lieu. But he's not been able to get his team leader to sit down and work it all out yet. *sigh* I really want to get this booked. I think they've agreed to the dates at least so maybe i could take the chance and book the flights to Manchester at least, before the Halifax/Heathrow leg fills up.

EDO on Friday, four day weekend! Labour Day is Monday. No plans as of yet. Might borrow Mom's car for a day or two.
