I survived the mall. As expected, it was pretty quiet when i got there about 5. Had a bit of a wander, picked up a few items and got home by about 6. Painless. I'll get everything wrapped/bagged this weekend and that's it. Still no word on the drywall work so I don't think my tree will get put up this year. If i thought they weren't going to get there at all until the new year i would have put it up already. Now, even though there's still a week before Christmas (as of the weekend), it hardly seems worth it. I'm used to having it up the whole month and I take it down over New Year's. 2 weeks just doesn't seem enough. So thanks Transglobe for screwing up my holiday decorating this year. Can't put my curtain rod back up either until the work gets done.

These first two were freebie from Librarything member giveaways, both pretty enjoyable.

83. Irreparable Harm - Melissa Miller
This is about a female lawyer who also knows martial arts. Good thing too because she gets tangled up in a crime where thugs attack her a few times. The story starts with a plane crash and it looks like an older man has caused it somehow with his phone. Turns out a corporation has devised a way to bring a plane down remotely using a phone on board. They wanted to sell this technology to the government who decided not to buy it. The "navigation" device is installed on a handful of planes owned by a company the lawyer's firm represents. They have no idea this is a dangerous technology. It looks like the bad guys have caused the crash and are going to do it again to make a point. They must be stopped.

84. Grave Situation - Alex MacLean
This is a forensic crime novel and a bit gruesome at times, describing the murders and the autopsies but it's very detailed and best of all, it takes place right here in Halifax mostly so i could picture everywhere they spoke about! We start off with a man who kills a prostitute and it seems like he's doing it for a particular reason. He kills several more times and the police lieutenant has to figure out who the serial killer is and how to catch him. The story is told from both the lieutenant's point of view and the killer's.

85 A Reckless Witch - Debora Geary
Again, the third book about her witch world, and another top mark for this book. I love this series of characters a lot and I think I enjoyed this book even more than the previous ones. This one centres on a young 18 year old very powerful weather witch who was left by her mother in a hotel room. Her mother didn't come back and nobody knows what happened to her. the daughter, Sierra, spent the next 6 years in foster care. The witching community discover her and take her under their collective wing. She knows she's a witch but was never taught things like safety and rules and has a big adjustment to make along with the responsibility.

86. - The Night circus - Erin Morgenstern
I really liked this one too. It's about a circus that only opens at night. It's two main characters, Marco and Celia are illusionists and are in competition with each other though they don't know who the other competitor is for a long time. The game is vague, the rules even more, their mentors cryptic. The story is full of enchantment and magic. The circus "tents" vary and change over the years, they are a delight. You find yourself wishing you could go to that circus yet as you read, you feel a sense of doom hanging over it all. The story jumps around in time a bit, sometimes going back over the same events from different points of view but it's clearly labeled where in time you are so it's never confusing. A very satisfying book, i thought.
