I watched some of the Golden Globe awards last night. Ricky Gervais was hosting. I'm not particularly a fan of his but oh boy did he have his skewers out last night and pointed directly at Hollywood. I wonder how he got away with some of the stuff he came out with which went from rude to downright nasty some of the time. One barb that had me snickering was this one: “Also not nominated, I Love You Phillip Morris, with Ewan McGregor and Jim Carrey, two heterosexual actors pretending to be gay - the complete opposite of some famous Scientologists then.” Gervais added: “My lawyers helped me the wording of that joke.” Ouch! More than one person he introduced had a veiled "joke" back at him and you could tell a few of them weren't too happy.
There were a few winners that i was really pleased got the nod. Steve Buscemi is a great character actor and the series he was in, Empire Falls was good though I did think Dexter was better in the overall series category. I was really pleased to see my two favourites from Glee won as well, the young man that plays gay Kurt and the woman that plays Sue Sylvester! Those two really make the show, in my opinion. After i went to bed, apparently the guy that plays Sheldon on Big Bang Theory won an award too! Ace! The lovely Colin Firth won as well!
Annette Bening and Al Pacino both had serious cases of Bedhead. Michael Douglas looks very ill. I know he's supposed to be recovering but I won't bet on him taking any long term roles. As usual, the fashion dos and don'ts are fun to look at the next day. There were a few really nice gowns but a lot of them were either just dull or downright unflattering and even a lot of the nice ones showed off how painfully thin some of those women are. Then there's the ones with new boobs that stuff them into a too-small too-plunging neckline to show them off.
