Rocky Shores

Yesterday we took a day trip to Moncton, New Brunswick where one of my best friends, Jo, is now living after 4 or 5 years in Edmonton. It was a really nice day so the drive up was very good and it was wonderful to see her again. I have seen her once or twice since she's been away, when she's been back east to visit her relatives in Moncton. Once she made the trip down to Halifax and once me and T. went up to see her. We had lunch with her and her hubby and then we drove to Hopewell Rocks, which is on the nearby Bay of Fundy, about a 30 or 40 minute drive away. The rocks were once part of the cliffs around a little bay/inlet but the massive tides of the Bay of Fundy have worn them down to resemble "flowerpot" rocks over the centuries, with trees and plants surviving on the tops of some of them. It's very cool to see at low tide and when the tide is up, you can kayak around the rocks as well. There's a visitor centre and cafe but both are now closed for the season. We could still park at the lower parking lot near the bay. There's a viewing platform or you can go down 100 or so wooden steps to see the rocks from the beach if the tide is out. The tide goes up to where the "stem" of the rock arcs out wider. It might not look it from the photo, but that's about 30 feet up off the ground. In the second photo behind the cut, you can just see a person at the base of one of the rocks, for perspective. More photos here

We had supper with Jo and her family and then headed back to Halifax last night and got back about 9:30. Today the heavens opened and it was really rainy and windy, the first bad weather day since G was back in Halifax (though the Toronto weather left some to be desired). He leaves tomorrow and is just packing up now. :(((( Another visit done with and a long winter until the next one in the spring.
