tasting notes~

Blair: truffle tarts with chocolate cookie crust, gilded with something popular but
unmistakably expensive. Topped with raspberry to maintain a tangy edge, but the centre is soft
chocolate filling.

Chuck: Syrah grape, easily a rival of a big, complex Cabernet. When cultivated, it is dark,
heavy, and tannic, and takes years to mature into fine wines with flavours of raspberry, plum, and
black pepper, and an aroma of smoke and leather.

Dan: lemon meringue. Bright, smooth, sour, and multi-layered.

Nate: macaron. Effortlessly popular, but mostly with tourists (outsiders). While not
fantastic-looking, they're a classic, and always taste great no matter when.

Serena: chocolate mud cakes with chocolate and mandarin ice cream. Simple childhood
favourite, but with a creative gourmet twist.

Amber: Saint Honoré. A pair of cream-filled éclairs, rich and heavy, but not as classy or
decadent as better desserts.

Cindy: peanut butter ice cream sundae. Fun and enjoyable, but only in small doses.

Blair and Serena both have an element of chocolate to represent the biggest things they
have in common, despite their extremely different personalities. Blair's pastry is dark, decadent and
unique, and Serena's is also dark (her long pre-season 1 history) but offset with the ice cream.
Dan is also a pastry, because he has always wanted to be a part of Serena's world, but never quite
makes the cut. He's a meringue, and this one is just a few notches below 'gourmet'. He's also lemon
because, like Blair, he has a sharp, sour edge, but his is much more pronounced than hers is. Chuck
isn't a pastry too, because while expensive, he's always going to be different from them.

Chuck is a Syrah wine. Could have been Pinot Noir, the "heartbreak grape," but picked because
the price range of the wine is a callback to his being noveau riche. Wine and chocolate is a classic
pairing, but with a twist on the typical port and bitter chocolate combo. The darker the dessert, the
darker the wine.

Nate is a macaron, who finds a macaron in the end, while striking out with a more expensive
French dessert in the past (Amber.) He's best friends with Chuck, an even unlikelier combo than Blair
and Serena, ergo, macaron and red wine. It used to be Blair's favourite, and now is still special to
her, though in a different way.
