Bee knew, in the deepest corners of his processors, that it was impossible to actually physically touch something. It was a rule of physics: the friction created between two objects would halt them nanometers from each other, giving the impression of touch but in reality no surface ever made contact with another.
He knew this, with as much confidence and inasmuch certainty that he knew he was a he by human standards.
But when Sam reached out and his friction came into contact with his-physics didn’t seem to mater anymore. There was only sensation and heart and the two of them and, unfeasibly, improbably, and though physically impossible, they had love.
And they touched. They touched with hands just as much as with spark and heart because love, Bee was beginning to understand, never really paid all that much attention to the laws of physics, the laws of reality all that much. Man and Machine-he had once thought that a love between them would be all but impossible.
But with a simple touch Sam could always prove him oh so wrong.
