MARRIED!!!

Mar 21, 2010 12:13

On Friday March 12, Rob and I were married at the historic Courthouse in Niagara-on-the-Lake. Here are just a few of the photos.

We were married in the John Drope hall at the Courthouse. From left to right we have Sheldon Kofsky (our officiant), Rob (the groom), Glen (Rob's brother and the best man), Andrew (a friend), Greg (my brother), and John Sherwood playing piano.

My father walked me down what I like to call "the center of the room." My bouquet is a Victorian goth inspired arrangement including black baccara roses, feathers, and black ribbon. The song was Debussy's Clair de Lune.

We had a ring ceremony as well as a handfasting ceremony. My maid of honour Nicky assisted with the tying of the chord.

The whole ceremony felt like it took 5 minutes, but it really took 30!

The bridesmaids and I all wore black velvet cloaks for photos and part of the reception. From left to right Claire, Nicky, and Rachel. My sister (the fourth bridesmaid) is in the background with me getting her picture taken :-)

Our head table. From left to right: Andrea, Claire, Rachel, Nicky, me, Rob, Glen, Andrew, Greg.

Our first dance was "I only have eyes for you"

Rob and I sitting at the head table. Lots of people took photos of us that day. If people wanted to see us kiss, we asked them to step up to a microphone and creatively complete the "Roses are red, violets are blue..." poem. No clanging glasses at our reception!

Here's a photo of my parents and John Sherwood at the parents' table.

Our cake was made by Willow Cakes in Niagara-on-the-Lake. The bottom layer was carrot cake, the middle was gluten free chocolate, and the top was cafe royale mousse. It was VERY delicious!

The DJ brought a fantastic lighting system called the Bliss light. It basically turns the ceiling into a star lit sky. I thought it looked fantastic with the skylight dome.

We started off with a pretty modest budget (at least compared to what I see in these bridal shows). The dress was a clearance item from Sears. From that, the whole black and white theme evolved. We got married in a historic site (since we're not religious) and it was very affordable compared to most banquet halls and ceremony sites. Matching everything to a black & white theme was pretty easy. We had red in the bouquet and flowers to add a bit of contrast to the theme. Oh yeah, and my hair matched my flowers :p

More details later, I promise!
