2009 started out pretty hectic. I finished grading for two classes, finished & submitted my paper for alt.chi, and jumped right back into lecturing. The first week of classes at the college went pretty well. I have the same group of students all day on Thursdays from 8:30 - 2:30 and then again from 3:30 - 6:30. The first course is a projects course I'm co-teaching with a gentleman from the region. The students get their first real crack at contract work, set up by the college and guided from start to finish by the instructors. We mentor them on meetings, billing, deadlines, etc. In the end, they get some real work to add to their portfolios, and some great references. The other course is a programming course I taught last year. Since the projects class ended at 11:00 last week (the real work begins next week when they meet with the clients), I was asked if we could start the second class right away and I ended up finishing at 2:00 that day. I start lectures at Ryerson next Saturday (the 17th). I am very excited about that.
We're still on strike here at York. I've been using the time to get extra work done on the research side of my degree. In addition to the aforementioned alt.chi paper, some of the results of my study have brought new questions to light that I would like to address in a second survey. If anyone on my flist uses Second Life for any type of purpose, I would absolutely love it if you would participate by answering some anonymous questions! I'm also planning on submitting an abstract to the Immersive Worlds conference being held at Brock University this year. These are due on the 15th, and I'm just in the process of editing now.
