Have some fanservice, and musings
just a pen drawing of my favourite slash pairing: IDW Sandstorm/G1 Fireflight. There are musings on this pairing below the drawing, feel free to skip them.
Fireflight/Sandstorm was the first TF Slash pairing I took interest in. Before that, I regarded slash with much confusion and tended to avoid it. It just wasn't my thing to me. After reading a story called "You an I Collide" which centers around this pairing in a wonderfully in-depth way, showing how they came together, I gained enough curiosity to look up the Wreckers, and I fell in love with the group. Ajremix, idiosyn here on Lj, has a huge oneshot compilation on Fanfiction.net called "What's wrong with a little destruction" that really made the Wreckers come alive to me. (And since she started the Fireflight/Sandstorm pairing, it encouraged my newfound curiosity in slash.)
Favourite pairings for me change very often, but this pairing will always be special to me, since it was the first pairing I ever read that made me think "Oh wow, these two could actually go together," and it made me bold enough to explore other pairings. That was.. hmm... I dunno, I only discovered Transformers around four years ago, and.. hmmm two years or so later, I started RPing with Blueprowl on DA, which was around the time I was first getting into TF slash.
Fireflight is a tender little creature, he needs to know that he's loved and he needs a lot of care. He's very distracteable and over-trusting. Sandstorm, harsh mech though he may be, is susecptible to Fireflight due to the fact that there is no lie in the jet. A mech who's spent his life seeing how people want to take advantage of him, Sandstorm is off-guard to Fireflight's honest affection and easy trust, but Fireflight is what Sandstorm needs; someone who wants him for what he is, and who loves him unconditionally. Theirs is far from being a perfect relationship, whch is part of why it is so good, in my opinion. No romance ever went perfectly, and as I've read "Its not the first kiss that really matters, its the kiss that happens after they've been through hell together." If they last through thick and thin, and can still hold each other like they did when they first came together, they are right for each other.
People who see these two together consider Sandstorm to be the dominante one in their relationship, but with the triplechanger is definitely the sexually dominant one, Fireflight unknowingly hold the reins of their relationship for the most part. Sandstorm isn't really good about the whole relationship thing, and primus knows he screws up a lot, but Fireflight's willing to accept that as long as Sandstorm loves him. the other Aerialbots are excellent foils to Sandstorm, and they, along with the other Wreckers, tend to watch over this couple closely for the simple fact that Sandy is a master of screwing up his relationships. Despite all this, Fireflight is allowed under Sandstorm's proverbial armour (And literal armour, yesss.) where no one else is, and though their relationship often seems delicate, I think that it has grown very strong. It certainly is in my mind.
