here's something for my f-list to offer input on:
What is one of the defining aspects of humans that make us different from the rest of the animal kingdom?
the fact that we can choose. We, on our own, can think beyond survival. and we can even choose to put ourselves in harms way and make choices that are terribly detrimental to ourselves.
However, some people seem to get stuck in the mindset that there are some things that we simply cannot choose to do. While, yes, one cannot expressly choose to stop breathing or to cease thinking, everything beyond the biological is a choice, whether you realize it or not. we do not *need* to wear clothes in public, but we choose to because it is a punishable social norm. we do not *need* to do certain things, yet we choose to because the negative effects that may accompany not choosing to do it. Yet, in the end, it is a choice, none the less. Beyond the biological, everything a human does is a choice, for one end or another.
