Another Fakir hits the books

Jun 24, 2009 05:30

[[Fakir has gradually been exploring the town. He has just been pleasantly surprised to discover that a decrepit-looking old house holds a substantial library. Closing the door behind him, he quickly scans the room for potential threats and exits, glancing behind bookshelves and in odd corners, until he is satisfied that nothing unexpected is going to leap out at him. Security procedures satisfied, he turns his attention to the books.  The ones high up out of reach are more tempting, since getting to them is more of a challenge. A library ladder is leaning against the stacks, but it shudders alarmingly when Fakir shoves it with his foot. He frowns and unhooks a wrench from his belt to tighten the bolts. A short time later, the ladder holds firm even when given a solid kick.

Climbing a ladder while wearing a sword and a tool belt is not significantly awkward for someone who has trained to be a junior officer on an airship. Turning himself around so he can sit on the top rung of the ladder is a little more awkward, but he manages it. Comfortably perched, he finds himself reaching for a familiar title: a tale of knightly valor that he has read many times before. He leafs through the pages while keeping half an eye and ear alert for trouble.]]

[[ooc: I figure it's about time for Fakir to stumble across the library. It would also be good for him to meet some more people, although sadly he is likely to alienate them by being rude. He's kind of depressed right now. He probably won't talk about it. Try to cheer him up, argue with him, knock him off the ladder, or whatever else strikes your fancy.]]
