Dear Friends,
Can you believe THE WALK is THIS WEEKEND? Me either, but it most assuredly is.
Tonight I will be getting my gear organized, and along with my Official Unofficial / Flower Power teammates, packing rain gear near the top (thereby insuring that it won't rain despite the forecast).
Thanks to YOUR generous support our team alone has raised over $30,000 for the Avon Foundation Breast Cancer Crusade!!
I've clocked 170 miles or so this winter/spring and in a few days I'll be aiming to add at least 26, if not more to the tally. Healing through walking has been a wonderful way to assess my energy levels and build stamina as I continue to move through the layers of my recovery journey. I've been blown away by your encouragement and gracious acts of kindness and solidarity in helping to spread awareness for Early Detection through self-exams and screening, as well as empowering others to be proactive about their breast and overall health care. Keep it up!
Avon doesn't give out the actual route, (we start and end at the Tidal Basin on the National Mall) but if you're in the area and would like to come out and experience the POWER OF PINK, not to mention some really GREAT get-ups, here's a link to the designated "Cheering Stations". It's been fun to play connect the dots to see where we'll be going.
http://info.avonfoundation.org/site/DocServer/Washington_DC_2009_-_Lets_Walk_-_Cheering_Stations_-_040.pdf?docID=7722 Please let me know if you plan to come out - it's hard to estimate ahead of time when I will be passing through these areas given the masses, but once we hit the road I should be able to estimate the pace and give you at least an hours heads up.
I have been adding names and spirits to the card that I carry with me during the walk ( and in my heart always) to honor those who have been personally touched by Breast Cancer. Please don't hesitate to pass on the name and story of anyone you would like for me to bring with us this weekend.
Look for a recap & announcement of the DC Area beneficiaries sometime next week!
THINK SUN!!
Peace,
Sarah
