Devil's Eyes. An original fiction fanmix.

Dec 27, 2009 08:36

Hey everyone, meet Hammond Cheese! He's the hero of my Modestly Interesting 'Verse. As such, he gets his very own fanmix (also, most of the other main characters do too, but he's the most important, what with being the protagonist and all.)

EDIT: I realized I put "zip here," when what I linked to was actually the rar file. I've added a zip as well, and the link is down there for your convenience!

Title: Devil's Eyes
Medium: Original fiction
Fandom: The Modestly Interesting Adventures of Hammond Cheese, or, original fiction
Subject: Our hero, Hammond Cheese.
Warnings: The accompanying sentences have some more adult implications. Also, this mix contains Spring Awakening, and that should tell you all you need to know.

Devil's Eyes. A Modestly Interesting Soundtrack, Disc Two

A Well-Respected Man; The Kinks

'Cause his world is built on punctuality
It never fails

And he's oh, so good
And he's oh, so fine
...

And he likes his own backyard
And he likes his fags the best...

Our hero, Hammond Cheese.

That Green Gentleman (Things Have Changed); Panic! At the Disco

I wanna go where everyone goes
I wanna know what everyone knows
I wanna go where everyone feels the same...

The knife dug into his hands, and for a fleeting moment, young Ham was finally normal, finally like everyone else (it wasn't until he saw another Enlightened being -- this one an angel -- that his dream came crashing down around him)

Devil's Eyes; Buck 65

Devil's eyes
I can see them when they scream
At night
Living with me in my dreams

He got used to it after a while -- demons stopped being so bad, and angels weren't that blindingly holy -- but Ham couldn't help but notice out of the corner of his eye that things weren't as they seemed, even to someone with the Sight.

Common People; Pulp

Rent a flat above a shop
Cut your hair and get a job
Smoke some fags and play some pool
Pretend you never went to school
But still you'll never get it right...

He was no good at being a normal person, he realized as he looked out his window, his best friend (who happened to be a ghost) standing beside him, and noticed all the other people out there doing things he'd probably never do.

Sun in an Empty Room; The Weakerthans

The shoulders we lean our shoulders into, mutter an apology
The shins we kick beneath the table, that reflexive cry
The faces we meet one awkward beat and terrified...

Just because he was with others of his "kind" didn't mean he was any less awkward and out of place than he was with the rest of the world.

Bitch of Living; Spring Awakening OBC

She said "Give me that hand please
And the itch you can't control
Let me teach you how to handle
All the sadness in your soul
Oh we'll work that silver magic
Then we'll aim it at the wall,"
She said "love may make you blind kid,
But I wouldn't mind at all..."

All the frustration, all the loneliness, had built up over the years, and here he was in Canada, with no one left around him, and he was too much of a coward to go make his own friends (he groaned and buried his face in the pillow) and he'd be alone forever (deep breath, one more time, exhale.)

The Geeks Get the Girls; American Hi-Fi

Tonight, tonight he's gonna get it right
Even losers can get lucky sometimes
All the freaks go on a winning streak
In a perfect world, all the geeks get the girls...

It wasn't happening, couldn't be happening, but there he was, flat on his back with her smiling down at him, and all he could remember afterwards was that her lips tasted like the peppermints at his grandmother's house-- also, what she looked like naked, which made taking his kindergarten class to the library very awkward.

Oh My God; Kaiser Chiefs

Oh my god I can't believe it
I've never been this far away from home...

This was Forrester -- his entire life he'd lived in the English countryside -- and even after 5 years living there, the city was still too labyrinthine for him to be able to find his way home alone.
