A Chance at Love
Part 1--Chapter 4: Got What it Takes?
Somalia cackled, "What?!! Is this the best you got?!! A little girl?!!"
She just said that she's not the strongest, dammit! I still don't know why she's the one to fight the guy, either. Well... aside from getting to show off her powers, of course. Still, I suppose I shouldn't complain yet. It might be character development, after all.
Kama stood in front of him, a hand on her hip. She said nothing, and kept a blank face.
Oh, great. Watch the Badassery OC (BOC from here on,) as she stands around doing nothing and showing no emotions for no real reason.
"What's the matter?!!" the scarlet-covered man mocked, "Cat got your tongue?!! Are you scared now that you stand in my presence?!!"
Yes, she's so scared, she can barely stand up straight. Dude, you are an idiot.
"No," she said, digging her pinky into her ear, "Just waiting for you to shut up long enough for me to kick your ass."
Watch as the BOC taunts its opponent for no apparent reason. As this species is usually a pretty stupid creature, it doesn't seem to understand that this behavior only takes away the tension of the upcoming battle instead of adding to it. Let's see what happens.
Her opponent's eye's flashed.
He's a robot! Go, dude with the silly name! Fry her with your laser vision!
"Do you know how hard it is to fight with someone 'yap-yap-yapping'?"
Do you know how annoying it is to listen to a character who can't stop hinting about how awesome they are and how annoyed they are about how inferior their opponent clearly is?
she asked, with annoyance in her voice, "I mean, do you ever shut up?"
Do you? For the love of apple pie, shut up and get on with kicking his ass already! You are annoying me!
"THAT DOES IT!!!!" Somalia shouted, taking out a broad sword, "PREPARE TO DIE!!!!!"
Why the hell do you get so angry over that comment? Just throw something back at her. It's not like she's too witty for you, or anything.
"See what I mean?" she sighed.
No. No, I don't see what you mean. Explain it further, preferably while the guy is stabbing you with his sword.
Back in the doorway, Franky poked Usopp, who seemed to be in a trance.
Er, why?
The blue-haired man had to jab his friend many more times until he came to.
Usopp shook his head, getting rid of the fog,
What fog? Why the hell is Usopp spacing out?!
"What is it, Franky?"
"Is she gonna be alright?" he asked, concern thick in his words.
Is she-- Okay, this is the second OC to turn Franky into a worrywart whose only concern in the world seems to have become the well-being of the Sue! First Kai/Nina, and now Kama!
Franky isn't like this! He's easily moved to tears, yes, but he doesn't fret about the well-being of strangers!
"Of course!" Usopp almost snapped back, "Kama is fast, smart, and mega-awesomely powerful!!
But she's really humble, don't you know?
She can take on anyone!!"
She already said that she's not the strongest here! Make up your mind, story!
Franky, along with everyone else, watched in an awed silence. Waiting.
They were all so massively stupid that they couldn't figure out how to deal with the enemy.
The sword wielder charged at her. Kama stood, an eye brow raised.
Is it just me, or is Kama acting like a villain here? I mean, the confidence in her own power and such, and the completely bored attitude towards an enemy she doesn't know. She has no idea about this guy's abilities or power, but she just pretty much goes “Meh, he's ugly and smells, so I'm obviously so much better than him.”
This remind me of a fic I wrote several years ago. Yeah, the villain was really under-powered, and I had no idea how to write a fight-scene. But I would bet that mine is at least a little bit more interesting than this fight.
He let out a roar as he raised up his sword.
A bit late to do that, don't you think?
She raised an arm, but still stood as if surrounded by an impenetrable wall.
Why isn't Somalia suspicious of this behavior. It's so painfully obvious that she's up to something here. Oh, I forgot, he's also massively stupid.
He was only a few inches from her. Kama seemed to unlatch something from the wrist of her right arm.
See? What did I tell you? A hidden weapon.
"Size-Up Fist," she calmly said.
... Which means... what, exactly?
A curved blade seemed to grow from her hand.
Seemed to. But it didn't. Because it was hidden up her sleeve. I don't really know how or where she was keeping it, though.
It collided with her enemies.
With all of them? Or do you mean Somalia's sword? In that case, just say that!
Both crews gasped.
They were all too stupid to do anything individually.
And don't try to tell me that everyone are so impressed with her skills. Zoro could do that same thing back in chapter 6 of One Piece! Hell, the first time we see him move once he was released from the pole he was tied to, he blocked nine soldiers with swords with his back turned to them!
Why the hell is this nonchalant block of one single guy's straight-forward attack so goddamn astonishing that every single person there is completely stunned by it?
Somalia's eyes were wide. Kama grinned evilly in his face.
See! She's a villain!
"Having fun yet?" she asked.
No, I'm not.
Purple-beard jumped back,
He's got a name! You can't just start referring to him by a nickname all of a sudden when it's not Kama's own narration! It makes it sound like there's another person there with a purple beard!
"How the bloody Hell did you do that?!!"
... What? She had it up her sleeve! You can't possibly be surprised by this! It's like the most common thing ever!
Kama scoffed. Holding out her right hand, she rolled up her sleeve with her left. A band was on her wrist, it was connected to the sword hilt in her hand by a chain.
... Did she really have to roll up her sleeve to show a band on her wrist? And where the hell was the blade attached in the sleeve, anyway?
"Get it?" she smarted off.
... What? No! No, I don't get it! I have no idea what you're talking about! What did her attack-name have to do with her hidden weapon? What is there to get? I'm so confused!
"W-What-How…?" her 'nemesis' shook it off, "WHO CARES?!! I'M GONNA KILL YOU!!!"
Well, that was kind of pointless. Also, “nemesis” and “opponent” are not interchangeable! And stop it with the damn scare-quotes already!
Kama shrugged, "If you say so."
Can someone give me a hint when I'm supposed to start caring about this character? How the hell am I supposed to feel the tension of the battle if the characters can't even be bothered to care about it?
Blindly, he charged at her again.
This guy is an idiot. How has he been able to keep his crew alive in the Grand Line?
Again, she stood.
Again, their swords collided.
*sighs, takes out her phone*
This became a repetitive theme. Run, clang. Run, clang. Finally, Kama had had enough.
*plays Bejeweled*
"I'm getting bored!!" she shouted when he charged again.
I'm freaking bored as well! DO SOMETHING!
Somalia didn't listen. He just ran at her once again, he was breathing heavy.
This guy is a massive idiot. He's like a poorly programmed video-game boss that only has one move.
Oh, you've got to see this.
Kama just shook her head. This time, she stuck out her sword in front of her. As he approached, the girl swept to one side. Captain Somalia stood still for a moment, then fell to the ground. He coughed, blood leaked from his mouth.
The guy just ran into her sword.
She didn't even have to do anything! This required no skill! Chopper could have taken out this guy in his default form, because this guy is pathetic! I have no idea why this is even here. This is stupid!
His crew started to freak out, "CAPTAIN!!! NO!!!"
Nah, they were probably going “... Dude, why are we following this guy again? And why aren't we helping him?”
The Straw Hats cheered, "Way to go!!"
Yeah, way to go, Kama, you assisted in this guy's suicide.
The sliced man laid on the deck, blood was pooling at his side. Kama walked over to him. She looked down, "Are you done already?"
Being patronizing is not becoming. Leave the guy alone.
Suddenly he shouted, "Get her, men!!"
A bit late for that kind of reaction, isn't it?
"Oh, that is so unfair…" Kama complained as the enemy crew surrounded her.
Oh, shut up. Now you just sound like you're whining.
By now, some of the Straw Hats were getting worried.
Oh, fuck off. Kama took out their captain with one slash. Who the hell would be worried about her?
Everyone, excluding the Monster Trio, wanted to jump out and help.
(Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji): Meh, let the Sue show off. It's not like she'll need any help in the end.
After all, these three would be used to this kind of stuff
Franky took a step forward, but Luffy stopped him.
This was a lot more dramatic when Luffy stopped Johnny and Yosaku from interfering in the battle between Zoro and Mihawk in the Krieg Arc. The battle was a whole lot more interesting and tense back there too. … I wish I was reading the comic right now.
"Luffy?" Franky almost growled, "She needs-"
- a smack upside the head for dragging out the battle longer than necessary.
"Don't worry," he told the cyborg in an even tone, "Just wait."
Franky redirected his attention to the girl. He still wanted to help.
Why?! There's no need for that!
Kama was now counting the men around her, "Only fifteen? You got a small crew or something?"
That was a lot funnier when Esmeralda did it in that one Disney movie...
Also, that insult makes no sense, considering that you're fighting for a crew of eight.
"Grrrr…" Somalia scowled, "GET HER!!!"
Quickly, as they all ran at her, Kama made the blade disappear. Flicking her wrist, the handle clasped onto the band. Holding two fists together, Kama grinned.
I have no idea what the hell just happened.
"Watched this!!" she was looking over at her friends, "I'm gonna blow 'em away!"
Just get on with it.
"Huh?" Franky was confused. He thought she was going to do a 'Coup de Vent' or something.
Though why he would think that is anyone's guess.
Luffy, Chopper, and Usopp had sparkling eyes, they knew what was coming next.
If it's not a beam, I don't think they'd care.
The three men cheered.
Who did?
The other four were smiling with anticipation. No one wanted to miss what was about to happen.
Can we just get it over with already?
Somalia's men were almost upon her.
How far away were they?! The main deck of Thousand Sunny isn't that large.
Kama shifted her fists down towards the deck. She took a deep breath, "Sonic Fist!! Updraft!!"
... Sonic... Fist?
A vortex of air shot up around her like a hurricane.
Okay, and why isn't she affected by the wind? Sure, I guess this is her Devil Fruit, whatever it is, but still. I'm still not sure what her powers are supposed to be.
It formed a wall that shot the pirates up into the sky. Nothing but their screams and shrieks were heard.
And the wind, I suppose.
All of them flew higher than the main mast and landed in the sea. Salty water splashed into the air and fell like rain on the wooden deck of The Sunny.
There were only sixteen men there. I don't think their combined weight would be enough to displace that much water that it would rain over the ship, even if they fell from up high. Well, maybe if they all fell into the water at the same place at the same time. After all, most of them were supposed to be overweight. Thousand Sunny is a pretty large ship, after all.
No one spoke a word. No one could. They were way too impressed.
Oh, fuck off. This narration is so clearly biased, it's not even funny.
I'm going to just ignore that last sentence and go with that they were stunned into how incredibly weak this enemy crew was.
Author's Note (from deviantart description):
(based on One Piece by Eiichiro Oda)
Chapter 4! Kama wants to fight Somalia, who feels no intimidation.
That's just because he is an idiot. How on earth has he been able to stay alive, and keep his crew alive, when he just goes up to an enemy crew and challenges them to fight against him alone? What was the point of this fight, aside from getting Kama to show off?
The Straw Hats can't wait to see her moves, while Franky worries for her safety.
For no reason, I must add.
There are a few of Kama's Devil Fruit powers in this chapter.
Oh goody, she's got more of them.
I believe this is the only time (dont quote me, but im pretty sure).
Then what's the point of giving her a DF power if she doesn't use it? And what is the point of having her show them off if you're not going to explain what her powers are?
Also, Kama does have two sickle-blades, but she only wears one at all times.
... it's a sickle? How the hell does she keep that hidden in her sleeve?
She keeps the other in her backpack. A bit of 'behind-the-scenes' info. ::=D::
Yeah, stuff that you really should show in the actual story if it's really that important.
Please enjoy!
No Japanese this time. ::sweatdrop:: sorry
No, that's good!
