I just posted a shorter version of this to my Christian chat list. I stopped writing because it was getting long. My brain is full of even more memories so I decided to expand and post here since its been forever since I posted anything other than a week in review post .
I was looking at writing prompts tonight and found one that brought back memories though I had to change it a bit to make it work
it was
what is your first memory regarding Sunday school?
So share since this is a sharing list your first memories of church and Sunday school.
I didn't start going to church until I became a Christian at 12. My parent aren't Christians but were willing to let me attend with an neighbor. Louisa is a wonderful lady who was very kind to to a very immature and talkative me. I still see her sometimes when I go out to the island.
I remember my first time in Children's church. At that particular church it was for kids up to 12 or 6th grade. I actually stayed there an extra year, probably I should just gone right in to adult church the children's church while it said it was for the older crowd really stopped at age 9, but what happened, happened. , but anyway, I remember getting to pick something from the welcome basket, watching a film about missionaries, and hearing an autoharp for the first time. I fell in love with it. I'd still like 1. I had 1 for a while. I'm not very good, but I like it. I became friends with the music leader's daughter who was my age. I ended up doing my student teaching in her mom's preschool class many years later.
My first experience in Sunday school was not pleasant. It was a class of mostly boys fifth and sixth grade boys and I had a hard time with the noise level. I stayed behind the next year when they all went on to middle school. I tried middle school, but again it was to many kids and to much noise. Again I probably should've been pushed to go there. I don't know I wouldn't've been happy and learning the bible is learning the bible no matter what age you are with. I had some wonderful times with that next group of kids. That group included Todd from the podcast. I particularly remember doing Readers Theater with several Sunday school lessons or rather listening while everyone else did as they didn't have them in Braille. Now they produce the student and teacher Sunday school books books on tape or at least they did as of a few years ago. Anyway, I remember 1 in particular where everyone started goofing off and laughing and it was totally crazy. I used to have it on tape wish I still did. Anyway this is getting long, so I'll stop.
