[Summary] Ohno loves it when Nino is sleeping. Nino hates it when Ohno sleeps, just because.

Ohno loves it when Nino is sleeping. It looks as if time has stopped, and they are the only two people in the world and not just only in the room. When Nino falls asleep, whether it be from gaming, or just to catch his proper sleeping hours, Ohno thinks he is beautiful, beautiful enough for Ohno’s breath to be stolen. And Ohno thinks that if his breath is stolen like this every single time Nino is sleeping, he never wants it back.
Sometimes when Nino’s hair falls in front of his eyes when he’s sleeping, Ohno pushes it back gently; however, he has no reason to. Nino looks beautiful like that, too. He loves it when Nino looks so fragile; his skin as delicate as an ancient China doll’s, and Ohno mirrors his fingers over Nino’s face, stops just once to kiss the mole on his chin.
Ohno also loves the way Nino’s eyes are closed - the eyelashes are short and beautiful and they flutter sometimes, because Nino is always unsure. Nino is insecure, and Ohno is always there to make sure that he isn’t. Ohno is always there to protect Nino, anyway.
Nino looks so innocent, so calm when he sleeps, and so different from when he is awake. When he is awake, Nino is always rigid, tense, and has this giddy smile on his face that is contradictory to the sleeping image Ohno has when Nino is asleep. Nino is loud and boisterous when he is awake, and Ohno likes that because he’s Nino. But Ohno also likes it when Nino is sleeping because it is still Nino; he’s got this quiet, calm aura around him that makes everyone else calm, too.
Ohno hates yet loves waking Nino up as well. When Nino wakes up, he makes a soft groaning sound at the back of his throat, and rubs his face against the surface of what his head is pillowed on. Most of the time it is Ohno’s left leg, but Ohno doesn’t complain; only laughs because it tickles, and it is just so Nino to wake up like that. Nino’s eyes flutter again, mind still disoriented, and gives a long sigh while pushing his hair back. There are some days when it takes longer for Nino to wake, but Ohno treasures every time that it happens.
Nino’s eyes always finally open last, because it’s the hardest for him to do. He sits up first, slowly, yawns and stretches, and then opens his eyes, smiling goofily because he knows that Ohno will be the first person he sees.
Ohno thinks that the way Nino doesn’t have a clue to where he is when he wakes up is adorable, because after opening his eyes and seeing Ohno, he looks around, says “Where are we?” in a mumbled, not very coherent voice, and Ohno just knows what he says.
Maybe I will draw him sleeping someday, is what Ohno always says to himself. But when he sees Nino’s face, he thinks that maybe this moment between just the two of them should be kept special and just between the two of them.

Nino hates it when Ohno sleeps. Well, he doesn’t hate it. It’s just that he sleeps for too long, and the times when he is awake already feels like he’s sleeping. Nino can’t really bring himself to complain though - he loves Ohno too much to complain, and he knows all too well that it’s not his fault for looking dazed and sleepy every day.
But when Ohno sleeps, it’s hard to tell if he’s awake or asleep because he sleeps with his eyes open. It’s scary, because one time, Nino sat on him, and Ohno jumped awake, let out a gargly kind of noise, and Nino screamed and rolled off. When Ohno sleeps, Nino feels like everything is dangerous.
Ohno sleeps so rarely though. He has his own share of work, and sometimes he doesn’t admit it but he is tired and doesn’t sleep much at all. Ohno probably feels the least sleepy person when he is fishing and is catching fish. And it is one of the things that Nino hates because Nino gets seasick and turns all pale and slightly green when he’s not on steady ground. He hates that he gets seasick because then he can’t be around Ohno when he’s feeling the least sleepy of them all.
It makes him angry all the more when he finds that Chinen (that little brat, Nino swears to himself he’ll kill him someday) wants to be taken on a fishing trip. Nino promises that one day he’ll learn to swim and overcome water and then take all of Ohno’s time so he doesn’t have any left for Chinen.
Ohno is always exhausted though. Sometimes Nino feels like when Ohno falls asleep, he’ll never wake up and he’ll keep sleeping. And perhaps a Sleeping Beauty kiss won’t work either, because those were all fairytales and Nino knows that life isn’t a fairytale - it’s a video game.
So Nino holds Ohno close to him when he sleeps, watching for the twitch of fingers carefully when Ohno is dreaming of drawing, watching for the curve in his lips when Ohno dreams about food or mumbles a sleepy “Ramen”.
Nino is scared that things will happen when Ohno is sleeping, so Nino watches him, brow creased with concentration.
He is reassured when Ohno wakes up, smiles sleepily and says, “Ice cream."
