So, Paisley and I went down to Southie this past weekend. Paul is in Florida with the Jims for sun and golf and the gulf, so Mom thought we could get some quality girl time in. She always has fifty million things for us to do when I get down there, but this time it was actually mostly fun. We ran a bunch of errands which included going to that pottery place downtown. Mom made this mosaic thing for her house numbers and I glazed a pitcher which I promised to her a couple of years ago. It was good times.
We also spend 5 hours (NOT an exaggeration) looking at old slides. Bert used to not get pictures developed, just slides, so a lot of our vacations, birthdays, other holidays are immortalized in a way that no one uses any more. So, we finally went through them all and found a bunch that we wanted made into pictures and a bunch to send to Bert's kids and a bunch to throw away.
Then, on Sunday , some crazy ladies from the Healing Hands came over and "smudged" the house. I had never heard of "smudging" before, but apparently, it is a ritual that involves burning a big clump of sage and dragging it all over the house in an attempt to rid the space of negative energy. They also tried to smudge the dog, but she didn't really like it. They thought maybe the reason she doesn't like other people is because of all her negative energy. Whatever. All that happened was that Mom's house smelled like pot.
Last week, everyone seemed to be asking me if I had received my license yet and I was getting so sick of telling them that I hadn't and then having them ask me why not. I don't know why the hell not. I'm not in charge of that part of it. The whole thing is in someone else's hands and I was getting very dissapointed going on the education website and never seeing the status change from "Application Pending." Today, though, it doesn't say that any more. It says that I have a license! I'm so happy. I can actually start applying places and maybe even subbing for some well deserved extra cash. What a fucking relief!
