Rhubarb was something I was just totally not into because I tried it once and never gave it a second chance. I was an incredibly picky child and now do my best to try and not be a picky adult, although secretly I still really am. But I have learned that maybe the first time I tried something, it wasn't prepared right. So now I try, and try again. Amazingly, most food is pretty good if you use this method... Point being, last summer when I worked at the bakery, another employee "accidentally broke" one of the smaller strawberry rhubarb tarts (which we all did on occasion, so that we could sample things. The bakery was big on not wasting anything, and we reasoned that how else could we really explain to customers what something was like unless we had sampled it ourselves?) and Sarah made me try it. It was wonderful, so sweet and tangy at the same time, so thick and glazy and perfect. I bought a very large one of those for the Fourth of July last year, and it passed up even the traditional berry layer cakes and Boston cream pies in popularity at my parents neighborhood barbeque. Allrecipes looks pretty cool- normally I use Epicurious, although they tend to be too... gourmet or something. Too hip and full of frou frou. I like trying funky things and of the moment things, but at heart I still like down home country comfort foods the best. Although Italian is pretty high up there, too.
