Character

Name: Xehanort’s Heartless
Fandom: Kingdom Hearts
Gender: Male
Age: If one considers when the Heartless alone was born, he is only about ten years old. If one includes Xehanort and Master Xehanort, his age is unknown, but he’s very, very old.
Time Period: Post-game
Wing Color: Black and dark purple
History: Wiki links because this guy covers three different people.
Personality: First and foremost, Ansem holds knowledge above all else. He ridicules Sora for not knowing anything, then turns right around and calls any attempt at learning a meaningless effort-perhaps because he knows that the Heartless are about to attack and ravage the islands. His thirst for knowledge is also evidenced in the reports, particularly in Ansem Report 10 where he states that, in order to learn of other worlds and all the knowledge they hold, he is willing to cast off his frail body and become a Heartless himself.

He is also a ruthless and manipulative man, stringing Maleficent along as a tool and mocking her after her fall. He also uses her as a means to prime Riku and twist him around into a proper vessel, opening himself to the darkness and thus Ansem himself-all so he could hold the Keyblade in his own hands, something he couldn’t do without a human body as Heartless are instead destroyed by it.

He views everyone as a tool or something that can simply be sent to slaughter-fodder for the endless numbers of Heartless under his command. He shows this especially once Kairi has fulfilled her purpose as a Princess of Heart. He approaches her, stating that her purpose has ended. His intention is quite clear: she no longer needs to exist, and he is willing to destroy anyone in order to be rid of her. And when Riku blocks his path from within, he sends Heartless after her.

Ansem is also vain. He states that he knows all that there is to know, and cannot see how he can be defeated by a mere child. He also wears clothing in such a way as to display his form. He is finely dressed, hair slicked back instead of left to fall in a mess, and he holds himself in a way that suggests pride in his appearance.

He is also a very cruel person, and very good at seeking out weaknesses through observation. When he seeks to possess Riku’s body, he uses the boy’s envy against him. Words are twisted, charm applied and charisma used to lure him in. Meanwhile, when he fights against Sora, he’s constantly berating the boy and trying to wear him down by telling him that he will not succeed because darkness conquers all-a truth Ansem believes in very much.

He has a tendency to speak in a low, nearly monotone voice until he gets worked up. Smugness is likely to be found in his tone, and if he’s berating someone or claiming triumph, his voice will change pitch. His arms are usually crossed over his chest, however, he’ll often use hand motions to punctuate his speech.

Strengths: Ansem is an extremely charismatic man. This is shown both by how he’s able to trick and talk Maleficent into doing his bidding. He also talked Riku into giving up his body. He’s a genius, as well, evidenced by how he excelled under Ansem the Wise and the way the castle has been modified as well as his meticulous records of his reports. He’s also fairly good at a fight, even if he leaves it up to his Guardian most of the time. He puppets Riku excellently, and is a fairly hard battle, and uses his own polearm with an expert hand. He also seems to be fairly adept at dark magic, shown by his ability in-game to use it in-game.

Weaknesses: On the other hand, he is incredibly vain and constantly underestimates others-as is seen with the entire first game. He has also become overly dependent on the Guardian, and while he is fairly good with his polearm, his movements are wide and leave him open. He is proud and does not admit defeat, leading to his own demise. He also does not rely on others, and everyone is a tool to be used. This also means that he is often left hurting when he requires an ally.

First Person: All worlds begin in darkness and all so end. The heart is no different. That is the truth of the universe. Nothing that any mere child says or does will change this truth.

[Even though he has found himself in this world, even though he has woken with these strange appendages upon his back, this truth is the one thing that matters. The truth of the universe is all he needs.]

The weak are devoured by the strong. Those who are charitable quickly find themselves without. In smaller worlds, this is especially true. Resources, however free, are competed for.

[He quietly considers this world now, orange eyes sweeping over the forests, the mountains, the houses and other things. He cares little for this world, for being trapped and left where there is little in the way of food for him. He was once a proud predator, but now, he feels as if he has been confined to a cage.

How laughable that they believe they can control him.]

Third Person: Once, he had called the world of Destiny Islands a prison surrounded by water. Perhaps it had been too hasty a judgement. At least that world had methods of leaving-by ship or through darkness. Here, though, he lacks even that. His portals will not take him to the greater universe-a barrier prevents it. This, in truth, is a prison disguised as a forest paradise. There is little to fight over-food and medicine is provided. People live. There is nothing more and nothing less. It is survival in the most simple or forms, and he despises it.

What drive is there to do anything in this world where all is provided for? It would seem what little drive that could be found would be geared toward escape and rallying against their captors. But even then, he feels the pathetic humans here would be quite liable to grow complacent and quickly fall to ruins against the provided lifestyle giving near instant satisfaction.

But more than anything, Ansem feels tired. A diet of animal hearts has drained him. There is little In the way of emotion there, or at least it is drastically different. Not suited to his own anatomy and needs. It has left him without strength, or at least strength resembling that of a slightly above-average human male with magical ability. Ansem is physically exhausted compared to what he was once was, feeling much more like the cloaked form he once held before possessing Riku. He can perhaps muster the strength to open portals and travel, but he has little strength-and even desire due to that lack of strength-to do much else.

It would seem he has become part of the problem. Complacent, though hardly content, to remain here. The lack of proper nutrition has left him unwilling to do anything.
