Serena had resisted taking classes at first, when the whole ordeal had seemed like a vacation, temporary. After almost ten months and having moved into a house, life on the island was, if not permanent, then clearly still a long-term situation. It was, she reasoned, a way to fill her time (and besides, a part of her said, if she ever found herself at home, her chances of getting into Brown were completely blown if she didn't keep up her studies in some form or other, even if 'magic desert island school' wasn't the kind of thing you put on your transcript. But she wasn't thinking about that). Besides, Blair had done it first.

There'd been so many choices, some of them hobbled by scheduling, but she eventually figured it out, narrowing her classes down and scribbling her makeshift schedule on a piece of paper for herself. With school starting again for her for the first time in nearly a year, she would need to start actually keeping track of days again. Remembering what she was taking when would be a start.

As she walked out of the Compound and into the sunlight, she tried to figure out where she was headed. The sight of Beat not far off decided her, and she headed over, leaning in to give him a quick kiss. "Hey!" she said, grinning. "Having fun?"
