It wasn't that Serena didn't want things to be okay with her and Blair. She definitely didn't want to leave it all in the air with Christmas coming, but she still couldn't really bring herself to go to the room and find Blair. Reconciliation may have been a possibility, but rejection seemed even more likely. It was hard to be certain how things would go, and she wasn't sure if staying away helped or hurt her chances, but it was better than finding out for sure that this was the one time Blair wouldn't forgive her.
With the tree in their hut, Serena still felt like it could use a little more decoration. One idle afternoon, temporarily bored with the snow, she wandered into the rec room in search of something else to do and found a box of craft supplies. Other people around seemed to be using them, so she peered inside, leaning her hip against the table as she started to leaf through sheets of construction paper and tubes of glitter.
The door to her hall was right there. She could have walked through it right then and found Blair and ended this all. Instead she kept her gaze focused on the contents of the box, pushing aside a bottle of glue.
