LA, Wash U style --or-- Wash U, LA style

So I realized today, during day two of our three hour critiques, that the South 40 (where the dorms are at Wash U) is kind of like LA.

My dorm, is kind of like Burbank. It smeels bad, a little old but not that bad and you really wouldn't want to admit you live there.

Lee, is kind of like Hollywood. A little dirty around the edges but over with lots character and parts of it (Lee 1 and 2 are kind of odd).

Danforth is Pasadena. Very kept up, clean but too far away and isolated to serve any practicle purpose.

Wohl/Bear's Den etc is the Beverly Center/that part of town. It is horribly crowded and just unavoidable.

Ligget/Koenig is Silver Lake. Got some cool people but kinda far on the other side and just unknown.

U House is Santa Monica/West LA. It's nice and clean and when you're there it seems like the shit but it lacks a little character.

On the shuttle back from Givens tonight (fine, so I am lazy and cold) I was talking about something California-related and the bus driver asked me if I was from California. I said yes and then he asked "why did you come here?" I hate that question. Just when I'm sure that Wash U was the right decision someone has to bring that up. And I imagine a parallel life with me going to school in California and I think about the waves crashing on the beach and the traffic cresting the hills on Laurel Canyon. But whatever, even though I can't feel my fingers I think I'm pretty lucky to have this as my walk to class...
