BASE

This icon is pretty old so my process is a bit different, anyway, I started with a 100*100 black canvas (that never change) and I set up for a close crop

Then, to give some ~moviment to my icon, I've dragged my image back, resized it and used the mask to create some lines

>

I've added a curve layer on screen and raised a point to make it lighter (yes, sherlock s1, was a bit dark to work with, but I love it anyway).

After that I've used the vibrance tool, but don't even ask what I did because WHO KNOWS?! The only thing that's evident is that I've added some yellow and red probably, anyway, Not really rilevant is it? If your base it's too purpleish, pump up the yellow.

And the vibrance up!
100 / 0
If you don't have the vibrance tool, try with the hue/saturation thing, not a very high number, maybe sat +50?

Now, stamp your merged layer and use the gaussian blur, then set the layer on screen at 80% fill

Paste your merged layer once again and set this layer on soft light (COLOUUUUUURS!)

A gradient map (hello!) layer with these colour (left to right)
#30211f and #6e5843
set on softlight 100% fill

Oh!Oh!
The painting part, I've added some white, light blue and brown lines over his face and hair, just because I like it, yes.

Raise the vibrance again +77, if you don't have the vibrance, as usual, try the hue/sat tool

Contrast as you like and you're done.
(This icon is meh, and you should know better than to like it)
