Scratch Tulum, I'm going to Merida in December. Thank you, Mom.
I'll get to see Chichen Itza, which I'm very excited about. I grew up with the idea that St. Augustine and Savannah were historical, and they are, but seeing really ancient shit makes me nervous. Next to ruins, I'm like a day old, and in that comparative lifespan, I'm also closer to DEATH. Maybe my math is wrong.

We'll be staying at a B&B run by a gay couple. On their website, you can click on "What to Expect," and it takes you here:

Aaron says I should go to North Korea, but that's $5,000 for someone to walk you around and tell you a lot of horseshit. Could you go to a country that ravaged by poverty? As a tourist? It seems cruel. You could argue that what little tourism they have trickling in helps financially, but how do you know? "thanks for the 5 grand, we'll spend $40 on food and the rest on bullets."
Even the NGO & other aid organizations can't move around there freely, or take pictures of anything but the statues. When I think of all that sad virginal space where cameras aren't allowed to click, IT BURNS.
