Will goes to Hogwarts

HI guys! I know I don't really post here though I've been watching the comm for some time. I have a Will dilemma though and I figured I'd bring it here where it might interest some people.
I was talking to a friend and we were sorting our favorite characters into Hogwarts Houses and I started to wonder what house would Will go into? I feel like he ( Read more... )

I voted Gryffindor but I think it would add more dramatic tension to put him in Slytherin. Just sayin'.

You're at Jack's weed again if you think Will belongs anywhere NEAR Slytherin, HA! :-)

Maybe Alley could link to a good site that explains in brief the characteristics of each House, for those of us who are Potter readers but perhaps not Potter fen, or up as much as we could be on what each one is about?

I tried looking for a good site with explanations that wasn't the basic wiki thing...but the problem is that it's hard to find something in-depth but also neutral. I think the problem here is that so many of the House traits overlap and it really depends on people's perceptions of things.

For example: Gyffindor's are brave, chivalrous and stand up for what they believe is right. However, there is a flip side too -- their bravery can be interpreted as stupidity, lack of common sense. or brashness. Their dedication to "doing the right thing" can and often does come off as self-righteousness and arrogance. It gets even harder when you consider that members of other houses can be brave and stand up for it right or what they believe to be right (Hufflepuff, and, I believe, Slytherin too in their own way.)
On the flip side, you have Slytherin. They are ambitious and cunning, manipulative with a strong sense of self-preservation but also extremely loyal to their own. But then loyalty is a Hufflepuff trait.

I'd say this is a case where you could put a character in any house and justify it - and have a good time doing it, sort of like we do with fanfic. *G*

Hufflepuff is my first inclination, but I think all of them have some Slytherin to them. There's way too much doublecrossing and machinations for there not to be!
