ah, the difference two years can make...
after the sound thrashing that we received from the collective german teams we faced in
2008, we have returned with two teams who wisely managed to sneak in two training days with the players from dublin, before the tournament.
this year, as they had over 30 teams, once more, saying they would turn up, have organised a round robin style first level of the tourny, followed by the quarter finals and the semi finals and then the big final. in the end, however, there are only 24 teams, as some were scared off by the weather report of cold miserable wet rain. iäll let my suntan attest to the veracity of that prediction....
redbacks 1, so far, have had victory in one game of four, in their five games. one of their non victorious games was against the recognised "best" team in berlin, where the scored 5 points to rigor mortis' 9. of the day, that was the lowest score rigor managed to get against another team and the most any team scored against them, so they feel their pride in their efforts are well founded.
the redbacks 2: redbackier, have won 2 out of the four games they played of their five. this would be the team that i'm chaining for. we played first on the day and there is always an odd feeling when you see the sequel before the original. the hardest part was we had to ref one game and go straight into playing another while redbacks 1 were facing rigor mortis. but, then again, apparently we're already slated for a spot in one of the quarter finals...
one of the qwiks for redbacks 1 had a head to head with another qwik and had to take a short trip to the hospital in an ambulance for minor injuries. but otherwise, the players for both australian teams are sore, aching and you can't get the smiles of their faces.... even the qwick... and it hurts when he smiles.
the fiend
off to day two...
