I claim not to like people, but in fact I'm very interested in getting to know people and what an individual is all about - their story. But there are some people, sometimes certain types of people that I try to avoid, and who I write off as people not important to me. Sure, this is prejudiced, but, well, it's annoying when you're around people who annoy you... and I'd rather avoid those encounters. I think once you've (that's you in the general sense, not you specifically) figured out which type of people you like, then occurrences of annoying people become less frequent. I wonder if it's a path to bitterness in the end. The whole, despising the way society is and the way it has produced idiots.
I very much enjoy meeting new people, provided I’m in the mood to be social. It’s interesting how dynamics of a room or a bunch of people can affect someone’s social ability/inability. I wonder how many people who have “nothing to offer” or who don’t provide for interesting or flowing conversation are actually very substantial, if given the time or if thrown into a different room/put one-on-one. It’s weird how messed up it is, in a way…
One of my favourite quotes is from the movie Clerks. Dante says to Randal, "You hate people." Randal replies with, "But I love gatherings. Isn't that ironic?" Gatherings and one-on-one people are quite different, though...
depending on the social gathering, they offer a huge potential for observation of the nuances and the meeting of new people.
i do find that keeping the people who annoy me (i know i can be annoying, for example...) away restricts my own view. for a three month period i woke up to john laws, in the morning, to wake me up. the radio was on the other side of the room, so if i wanted to turn it off, i had to get up. and as much as the golden tonsils themselves gave me the jitters, the people who would call up to talk to him, paying ceaser his due ,were the real agony for me.
but i will read webpages or watch pundits who take stances i disagree with, so i can have an idea of what forms other peoples ideas. i don't want to be as much of a ditto-head as those who never read outside their own reality tunnel.
