Drive-by Posting: Garb, Circlet and Stories Full Circle

May 25, 2006 01:44

My persona within the SCA is that of an ordinary early-medieval scholar. That being said, given that once upon a time a whole bunch of mischievious friends here in Cynnabar went through all the trouble to have me formally made a Lord in the SCA, I ought to at least once in a while look the part. :-)

At the time I recieved my Award of Arms from HRM Brannos and Rebekah, along with the scroll I recieved a circlet of finely braided silver and gold-tinged filament. In keeping with my persona, I haven't actually found an occasion to wear the circlet yet, preferring the floppy black hat _constantine kindly gave me long ago. But there are happy occasions and momentous celebrations when even a humble scholar ought to dress up to station. ravenessdotcom is the very talented Cynnabar seamstress who made englandbound and covaithe's early medieval wedding ensembles. I was very lucky that she very generously also agreed to help create a more formal set of garb for me. Although the formal cloak/cape won't be finished in time, I'm plenty enough excited about the tunic I should be recieving this evening. Between it and the circlet, I ought to for once look the part of a gentleman, circa the High Medieval Age, just in time for a wedding in Calontir. :-)

cerebrate was the storyteller who first introduced me to the Wolves Glen Pub, the place of stories and roleplaying from which many marvelous friendships were born. The place which in fact my very LJ handle -- turnberryknkn, Turnberry Knick-Knock the golden retriever Fae Pooka -- was born. ceara regaled me with tales of the SCA over nights on ICQ and kept insistently pushing me to enter the Dream, ceara in whose honor the green on my own personal SCAdian arms is in part borne. Countless stories from adventures in the Wolves Glen Pub; countless stories from adventures in the Middle Ages reborn; and scores of marvelous friends met along the way, all told in parts before in this Journal. And all thanks in large measure to the Lady and Lord whose wedding this coming weekend I have the privelege of being a tiny part of.

Friday afternoon I'll race out of the medical center as soon as my duties are finished, to begin the journey to the Barony of Vatavia, circlet and formal garb packed away in my garmet bag. Many tales and succession of tales to come full circle this special weekend, at a celebration of the joining of lives shared with many dear friends. I'm very much looking forward to it. :-)
